    Default Don't understand

Hi girls, i did egg pick up and i been told 9 can use. On day three(transfer day),doctor told me 6 fertilised, put one in,rest 5 go to develop.

i called today, doc said those 5 embryo all did not make it.
I am surprised because i thought they put rest of 5 into frozen. So now i got none to transfer and only hope this one can make it.

So i am thinking, why doc did not put rest of five embryo into frozen and goes to try blastocyst. now i got nothing left.
    Anyone knows?

hi @brisbanebabeshan so sorry you had no embryos frozen .

They grow the embryos to day 5 usually to see which is the strongest embryo to transfer and to weed out the weak ones. If they weren't strong enough to make it to day 5 then its most likely they wouldn't have resulted in a pregnancy. So if they had frozen them at day 3 and put them back one by one that would have been a lot of wasted time and money and energy on your part.

In all my cycles I never any good enough to freeze. Just a fresh transfer each time, its not unusual at all. They would have put back the strongest looking embryo on day 3 so hopefully that one will stick!

    I hope that helps?

@brisbanebabeshan I'm sorry to hear that Luv, it's so disappointing when that happens

@Bongley is right. When you have a lot of embryo's to begin with, most Fertility Clinics and Fertility Specialists will want them grown out to Day 5 to see which one(s) are the strongest to transfer and freeze.

It's quite common for some of the embryo's to stop growing between Day 4 and 5 and unfortunately it's also common for the embryo's you have left on Day 5 not to be of a good enough quality to freeze. They have to be a certain quality to be able to freeze them or they wouldn't survive that or the thawing process which is what happened to our excess embryo's on Cycle's 1 and 2. They weren't of a good enough quality to freeze which felt like such a waste!! So we had to keep on doing stimulated Cycles and transferring fresh embryo's like @Bongley.

That's not to say the the embryo you had transferred on Day 3 isn't good enough to get you pregnant. Many women, including myself, have gotten our BFP's on Day 3 transfers I am surprised your FS just didn't wait until Day 5 and then transfer an embryo considering you had so many still growing on Day 3??

Now it's a waiting game (which is why they call it the 2WW..I call it the 2WTorture!!) There's nothing more you can do, it either will work or it won't .

Am and sending you way for a positive result!! Good Luck!!!

It's very common. Embryo's transferred into your body have a much better chance of making it than the ones that are left to grow at the clinic. Your bodies environment is much more suitable so your embie inside is probably doing great in there . Not many places will freeze a 3 day embie as they are not compacted and the freezing disturbs them too much. Only about 30% of fertilised eggs even make it to day 5, much less be quality enough to transfer, but if they do make it and are high quality then they have great success rates with frozen transfer. I did a cycle in 2013 with a 3 day transfer. I had 4 identical 8 cell (ideal) perfect embies to chose from but the specialist said they were all as good as each other so it didn't matter which one they transferred. That embie is now my gorgeous 1yr old boy - they grew the other 3 embies to day 5 but none made the mustard so we had nothing to freeze. Fingers crossed the same happens to you xx

@brisbanebabeshan Call the Clinic and let them know Luv what's happened. Are you on any Progesterone support like Crinone or Progesterone Pessaries??

It's very early for your period to come, so I'm hoping it's not that

PS...You don't include transfer day. So are you 4dpt3dt(4 days past a 3 day transfer)?? What I mean is did you transfer your embryo 4 days ago or 5 days ago??

Ok, so you are 4pt3dt (4 days past a 3 Day transfer or 7dpo..7 days past ovulation. Ovulation is the day of EPU-Egg Pick Up.)

Is the bleeding very heavy or just spotting?? The Crinone can cause cramping as a side effect and it can irritate your cervix as well and cause a bit of bleeding/spotting especially if you push the applicator in a little bit too far accidentally and scratch the cervix a little bit.

P.S....I hope it doesn't take that long for your FS to call back!! You would think a nurse there would be able to help??
