Wow this thread moves fast sometimes!
Welcome @KateG! We heading to Greece early Sept to see Dr K

Sorry to hear of the bleeding @kymmymichell but it does seem to be fairly common with DE/IVF ladies doesn't make it any easier though! I'm dreading it.

@wetsetter, with my son I waited til 14 weeks before telling anyone and even then I would have been happy to not tell a soul until he was born - LOL! I felt like I held my breathe the whole 41 weeks.
@laiyabelle Dr K hasn't mentioned anything about sperm donor for us at all, however my DH has had extensive tests on his 'swimmers' to make sure that they not only go in the right direction but they can go the distance - LOL! It cost us around $400 (?) and I can't remember the name but I'm sure someone here would know, it tests the sperm over the course of 5 days for stamina, endurance and DNA fragmentation. Our FS said the results were very good but we do have a lot riding on them (so to speak) because we really want to use his sperm so there is some genetic link to our son.

I do remember someone back on the old thread going over and discovering that her DH sperm was not up to the task so they used did a double donor.

We are still all on track to head over early Sept - I'm so nervous and excited its crazy! My sons passport arrived today and mine should be here in the next 2 days. Still looking at accom but airfares are booked and paid for, time off work booked, time off school booked and I'm trying NOT to start packing - LOL!

    Thanks for your response Jamellabeth
Ah ok, yes we haven't had that test done though did talk about it. I know the one you mean (dna fragmentation).
I'm now thinking we should get it done. We were pretty convinced it was my eggs (due to what the FS said) but i guess this test will tell us 100%. Best to dot the i's and cross the T's.
    It is so exciting isn't it! I can't wait either! 😃 x

We thought the same @Laiylabelle, we decided that if we're going down the path of donor eggs then we wanted to know as much as possible so the cost really wasn't a factor we just wanted to know if it was still possible for DH to do his part!

That's very exciting news Vixjc! And glad to hear that Thomas is on the mend and not causing you so much worry. How have you managed to get the ET date so exact, are you using hubby's frozen sperm? How long are you spending over there?

The ET date is precise because the embryos are frozen so the whole protocol can be quite exact. Theoretically my lining is the inly variable but after so many cycles I know how to rev that up if I need to and I'll do extra scans here before I go just to make sure. I'll be there 5 nights ... Bring on the gyros and meatballs! And saganaki. And spanakopita ... I'll put on a kilo per day!

    Hi Everyone

Hope you are all okay. Things have been crazy here and I have not been able to check in.

Vix: Glad to hear your son is doing better. I'm sure its a great relief! And to know your FET date - wow, things are moving quickly for you! Great news all around.

I am back to waiting on my period, yet again. I took the Provera as directed like I did the last two months and I still have not gotten it and its now 34 days. Doc was trying to get me to a more normal 28 to 30 and now I'm at 34! Ugghh. This will now push our Sept dates to very late in the month and we may need to change to October as a result. The end of Sept is a very bad time for DH at work and he can't be on vacation. We thought we'd be able to fly home on the 20th or 21st, but the way I calculate it now, we'd need to be there til the 25th or maybe a day or two later and that just won't work... I don't mind going in Oct, I just want to be able to know when so my mind can plan, etc. I sent a message to Dr K so we'll see what happens from here. (The clinic is closed for vacation now, right? I feel so awful bothering him but he had told me he is in touch with the patients during this time so I guess its okay. ) So, I am waiting to see what happens, again!

On top of this, my doctor here has suggested checking out my thyroid levels. I had an issue during a previous cycle but then all came out normal. They attributed it to the high dose of hormones I was on at the time. I did not like they way the thyroid med made me feel so when they told me it looked okay, I stopped taking it. We then stopped IVF and I didn't think about it any more. I was complaining that my hair is very, very thin and he said it could be a thyroid problem and wants to check to see so it can be normalized before the cycle.

So close, yet so far!! What else can happen?? LOL!

Kimmy and Wet: Glad to hear the bleeding has tapered off. I can only imagine how nerve racking that could be. Let's hope its smooth sailing from here on out!

    Stay well ladies!

Justcantstop sorry to hear that you had to change your plans but hopefully it'll all start happening soon and you'll be back on track.

Yes the ivf hormones may affect your thyroid but more than anything stress and anxiety. You mentioned Dr k put you on contraceptives to get your periods reg. That could also have an effect. Regardless definitely have your thyroid tested both TSH and antibody. I spoke with Dr k about it and he said using DE your thyroid level is not that important but for your own well being you should be at a healthy level.

Fingers crossed for all of us!!!
    xx

    Hello everyone!
Just a quick question for the ladies that have already been to see Dr K - where did you stay?

I'm spending far too much time looking at accommodation options for the first week and its driving me crazy!
We will be travelling with our 6yr old son who thinks its just a big holiday (knows nothing about trying for a sibling!) and we're kinda tied to embryoland for the first week so ideally I'd like something fairly close but that's big enough for the 3 of us and has a pool (ds loves swimming so it will keep him very happy and occupied!) - I've looked at The president but the rooms look small and there's no balcony, the white lotus apartments are almost perfect (kitchen, balcony etc) but no pool. I like the idea of the president because its literally around the corner (I've google walked it!)

We are planning lots of day trips that first week and then we will have another 10 days to go and explore the islands etc before heading home.

    Any suggestions?

How far away is too far in that first week of having appointments, scans, transfers etc?

Hi Jamellabeth - serum and embryoland are very close to each other and there is a guide on the UK website Fertility Friends, to using Serum. One of the things they cover is the hotels near Serum, which would work just as well for embryoland - I'll try to include pics of what I printed last year but in case it's too small, Google 'Agate's Serum file' and you should come up with it. Go to ques 10.1 of the guide and that might be helpful. There is more in the guide about apartments but I'm not sure if you wanted to explore that option.
