Default Parenting has changed my views (NOT a serious thread)

Being a parent has changed me in ways that I never could have anticipated, and wouldn't have understood if someone tried to explain it to me before my babies came into my life. Changed me deep down at the core of my being, challenging my beliefs and sense of who I am... Let's not talk about this.

Let's talk about the things that I decided about the type of parent I was going to be - before I had babies - that make me laugh now. How they make me smile because of how native I was! Things like "I'll never co-sleep, that's just dangerous." In the middle of the sleep deprived craziness of those first few weeks of motherhood I threw that one out the window! Or "I'll have my kids able to swim by the time they can walk, that's the safe way to be around places with swimming pools. " And now my DS1 is 4 and a half now and still can't swim!

What things have you said about parenting before you had kids that you haven't followed through with, and or are just plain silly in hindsight?

My kids will never be back chatting me or tantrumming in public- they'll try it once and never again! I simply won't put up with it!

Yep it was that black and white to me- what a moron! :P

And the sad thing is I still get that mentality suggested to me by child free friends and child free men I've dated. The whole- well just come down on them! Or well when I was a kid my parents just smacked me and I learnt real fast (suggesting I just beat on them lol)

    :rolls eyes:

"My kid will eat only organic fresh food, which is all I'll eat while pregnant too" Yep...that was thrown out the window as soon as morning sickness kicked in and all I could stomach was hot chips with gravy, or ice cream!

"I'll never have cr@ppy plastic disney/cartoon merchandise in my house!" DS's toy room is like a shrine to Pixar, lol!

"No screen time until 2 years old."

My DS was so well versed on all types of technology he was teaching the grandparents at 1.

"I will never allow The Wiggles airtime in my house or car".

A 'best of' cd of The Wiggles is on repeat in the car.
DD's fav program is "Emma Wiggle" & she sleeps with a Dorothy the Dinosaur plushie that was carefully selected by said child at The Wiggles Shop at Dreamworld.

Pretty much all of the above. I used to watch kids TV and cringe at how cheesy they were singing and dancing and now we have a nursery rhymes dvd on every day with me dancing around the living room. Also the whole "I'm not going to let having kids change my life, I'll still do the things I used to". Yep so naive.

I had so many! My parenting knowledge knew no bounds. Feeding to sleep and cosleeping were definitely not happening! We now do both every day. 😊
I actually once said "my baby will fit into my life and schedule. Not the other way round." Bahahahaha!
