    I am absolutely probably doing something wrong!...But I can never figure out what it is! They need to make it more idiot-proof. I may hold 3 university degrees, but those self-serve checkouts are hard!!

    I find the Coles self serve far less user friendly than the Woolies ones. But the trick with the Coles ones is to wait until the lights turn green after scanning the item before, don't try and scan a new item while the lights are red as that really stuffs it up.

    Very rude Harvs. I probably wouldn't have said anythign because I don't like conflict, but I would have raised my eybrows a bit, and probably said something out loud to one of my kids like "oh sorry, you have to wait a little bit longer for your milk now" or something like that, so he'd at least know I was annoyed.

    My local Coles will often have 1 checkout open that will have a queue of at least 6 full trolleys deep and rather than open another checkout the staff will start directing people with full trolleys to use self serve.

    We always take a trolley through the self serve regardless of how many items we have. Its either that or the pram.

    I also take trolleys through the self serve. The line-up for services checkouts is usually way too long and there about 8-10 self serve checkouts so the turn over is pretty quick and I don't think I'm holding anyone up.

    - It was only a basket, not a trolley, he could probably just as easily held the items and rejoined his friend.
    - He was meant to pay in the one transaction but his friend had finished and was getting nervous so paid for his groceries instead of saying that he was waiting for someone.

    What I really think is that is was rude and I would have been okay with him going in front if they were together and he was polite but pushing in and moving your stuff is not okay.

    I do it all the time. I pick the self serve machine in the corner so can park my trolley in the corner or next to the wall and out of everyone's way - have never had an issue. If they don't want trolleys in there they should open more than one register - it's like being penalised for using a trolley with 6 people waiting.

    I always use self service and I generally will have a trolley. My woollies has some larger self serves with space for 2 bags next to each other so I always wait for one of those to be free. I've never been in the way of other people so maybe all the ones I've been to just have more space...?
