Default PHI - value for money companies?

Since adding DS to our policy and upgrading to family cover our PHI has skyrocketed. This is basic hospital + extras - with a $250 excess for hospital admissions.

We want to cut down on insurance costs but using the online comparisons I haven't found anything cheaper.

I am admitted to hospital at least once per year, we were only paying a $50 excess per admission before DS on our couples cover, but I cannot find anything with a cheaper excess (options for nil excess the rates are even higher, other options are $250 or $500 ) in family cover.

Any suggestions on good value for money insurance?

Do you have any family who served in the war? (DH or yours) we just recently switched to defence health it ended up being so much cheaper and better value for money. We were able to get it with hubby's grandfather serving

Thanks Monnie. I am eligible for defence health but it's the same price as what we are paying now without any extra benefits (in fact, it would just be a higher excess instead). :/

Oh that sucks!! It worked out best for us with all the extras as I needed it for my WLS. And DS.

But lately with appointments I don't even know if it's worth it! Yesterday I paid for a specialist and nothing came off our PHI only Medicare. Grr

Yeah specialist appointments aren't ever covered by PHI, only procedures ordered by them. Sucks.

I am looking at getting dental, major dental and orthodontic coverage so mid range cover as we are now a family of 5, 4 of whom need braces within the next few years. Anyone know my cheapest options?

I found defence health the best it's unlimited on orthodontics I have braces. I started off with Medibank and switched over to Bupa then defence during my braces time. Can recommend you a fantastic place too here. He does payment plans too so it works out great with PHI
