Default The reasons parents get divorced

    http://www.mamamia.com.au/lifestyle/parents-of-young-children-divorce/

I feel like for every candle on your child’s birthday cake, if you and your significant other are still speaking, you deserve a party of your own. One with adult drinks, and a creche.

Instead of mourning the breakdowns of celebrity relationships and wondering why they couldn’t make it work for the sake of their photogenic offspring, we should be looking around and celebrating any parents who still seem to like each other.

Because they are the real miracle of birth. If you are looking at your phone quizzically right now, I know why.

You don’t have children yet. Let me explain.
So - if you and your partner still like each other after having kids -

    High five:
22 years together with dh and we haven't been happier.

I'm a bit bewildered tbh in regards to how having kids can throw a spanner in the works of a relationship to the extent that parents drift apart then separate.
Perhaps the key is spending years with your partner and getting to know them properly before bringing children into the relationship then still making the effort and having time for your dh when kids do come along, keep the spark in your relationship and communicate. Share the raising and decisions regarding your children 50 50.
Not sure really but must help surely!

Default The reasons parents get divorced

I definitely do believe it can place a strain. I think having similar life goals and expectations is crucial to having a long term relationship.
@blessedwith3boys - not everyone generally has the time frame to wait 10-15ys to be together to have kids. Nor can everyone predict how they will cope with the stresses of family life. unplanned pregnancies and even planned ones can place undue stress on a couple. Losing employment, death of loved ones, high stress lifestyles, sicknesses, high needs kids can all effect a relationship.
