This is why we chose to have none! Definitely go #2. If that is what your DF truly wants then that's what he should have.

Your DF should ask the friend that he really wants by his side (number 2). Just because he was best man for number 1 doesn't mean that number 1 has to be best man for your DF.

It's your wedding. Do what YOU want to do.

As someone who got bullied by family into having one/not having one and regretting it ever since I say go with #2.

I would go option 2 or whoever it is your DH wants there most of all.

DH had a good friend as a Groomsmen (had 3 altogether). A few years later this friend got married & didn't have DH as a Groomsmen. DH wasn't offended at all.

It's your big day so I'd hope that no one would get offended by anything & would be happy there celebrating it with you.

    Good luck with it

There's your answer. This is who DH really wants. It's your wedding day and you only get one. Just explain that you can't afford more than one attendant but if you could, he would certainly have been asked. I predict his wife will be more miffed than him.

That being said, my Dad was best man at my uncle's wedding and when he didn't return the favour, he refused to be in the family wedding photos and they didn't speak for years.
