My second pregnancy went as per the first one : very smooth sailing and no issue whatsoever.
For the birth I had thought about birth preferences - rather than birth plan. Didn't want any pain relief but hot water.
For my first birth, I had an epidural after I got to 10cm. I had even started pushing.
While I didn't mind the epidural I think it brought the need for ventouse delivery and episiotomy. No issue with either of them except that DS was born crying for a good two hours. The poor thing was hurting from the ventouse.
So this time I was very keen to have the magical quiet moment of newborn bliss, when they are just born and looking around for the familiar voices etc.
I was convinced Id go in labour after my EDD as I was so comfortable in my pregnant self. Well baby proved me wrong!
Wednesday, 39+1 I woke up to light period type pains. They come at regular 15 min interval.
This will go on all day long. They are so light that I can keep up with my daily activities and don't feel them much when on my feet.
I go to bed after 1am as I feel the need to tidy the whole house and put finishing touches to my maternity bags.
I still don't believe anything will happen during the night.
Thursday 39+2, I get woken up at 3.30am by contractions, 5 min apart and 40 sec. Tried to go back to sleep to no avail...
I then went to the bathroom and noticed I have had a bloody show. That's when I realized it was the real deal. Baby is on its way!
3.45am, I woke DH up, then had a shower and did my hair while we waited to see if contractions got stronger.
By 4.15am we called a friend to come mind DS as contractions were then coming every 3min.
I vomit all the water I just drank, eeeww.
4.30am our friend arrives. While we give him a run down of DS' routine it helps me ignore the contraction pain. TENS machine is on and helps too.
4.45am we leave for the hospital. On the way I notice that contractions have ramped up again but somehow I still fear we are heading to hospital way to early. I was only in bed an hour earlier!!
5am we arrived at hospital to be greeted by the reception dude letting us know we are not covered by PHI.
Not the best time to bring up administrative issues dude. Seriously! Wanted to punch him in the face lol
We get to birth suite and they hook me straight up to the CTG. Then even before she could get the recording going the MW runs out the door when hearing an out of control lady coming in (that lady was screaming the walls down, I even got a little scared. Seriously).
By 5.30am still no sign of any MW. What about supposed 1:1 mw/ patient ratio in birth suite?! I consider changing my technique of quiet achiever to out of control yeller to get a MW back with me. I just want to rip the CTG away and get to the shower.
5.40am DH go get a hold of someone and find an OB. I told her screw the CTG I'm going in the shower.
6am Shower was heaven but my waters just broke and I start feeling good pressure in my bum. At this point they promptly call my OB.
6.15am OB gets in and ask me if I want a VE. I agree but tell him in the same breath that I'm pushing. No need for a VE in the end!
OB tells me to listen to my body and do what I feel like doing.
I push for 20min, it seems so difficult, especially the feeling of baby's head sleeping back in after each push. It also burnt like hell, but here she is!
She's perfect!!! A tiny cry and then she's on my chest, looking at us with her eyes wide open. Her head is in a perfect round shape she obviously didn't stay stuck for long in the "birth canal".
I wanted a delayed cord clamping but the cord must be short and it's very annoying putting pressure on my vulva. Not a nice feeling! I ask for it to be cut asap.
The delivery of the placenta is easy but quite gross.
My OB tells me I have a little tear, need two stitches and don't even feel them coming in.
We then had breakfast, DH is gone home and taking care of PHI issues.
My beautiful baby girl is asleep, I had a shower and should probably try and sleep but still buzzing from it all ❤️
So happy to have managed it all just with water, I certainly felt like asking for drugs while pushing 😳
So glad and proud I didn't!
3 hrs done and dusted I still can't believe it!!
Recovery is a breeze. I'm up and walking as if nothing happened within a couple of hours.
Look out princess Kate!! :-p
