Tried to pm you but it won't let me. Pm me if you can - I can highly recommend the ob who's delivered both my two. If you are a facebooker go to the Epworth freemasons page and scroll through they often post profiles of the obs that deliver there. The hospital is amazing - great choice :-)

David O'Callaghan is BRILLIANT!!! He delivered both my children (2006 & 2010) at St. Vincent's, but he also delivers at Epworth Freemasons. His rooms are at St. Vincent's. David is just magnificent - I honestly can't fault him. Feel free to PM me if you've got any questions.

Thanks for your reply. I've heard great things about him. Do you remember how much he charged when you saw him?

I can't remember exactly, Belinda, but he certainly wasn't the most expensive. I had heard rave reviews about Lionel Steinberg, but he was way too expensive for us. Lionel did end up snipping our daughter's tongue tie and circumcising our son, so I know he's great, but just too pricey to have as our Ob. I'm so glad that I chose David though - his manner was just superb and really suited me, and he was very supportive when we went to see him after our daughter passed away and we tried to conceive again.

David is one of the cheaper OBs at around $3300 he's lovely, but be aware he's pro natural birth and pretty casual, so if you're used to being micro managed by a fertility specialist like I was you might find that difficult. I also wanted an elective c but that fell on deaf ears lol. He was very nice though and always available when needed. I ended up with pre eclampsia and had an emergency c - and he came into his own then.

David was my obs for DS 1, and I went back to him without a doubt for my second, which I am 22 weeks now. I love him and can't speak highly enough of him. As PP said, he is very relaxed but that's what I liked about him - there was no panic, even with a minor complicatin I'm having this time around, but he is very thorough. Interestingly a lot of private obs are criticised for being c-section happy. I agree that David is pro-natural, but I don't feel that this is at the patients detriment. He supported my decision to give a natural birth a good crack, but there was very happy to suggest a c-section when my 4.6 kg bubby was failing to descend. And this time around he has been totally on board with whatever decision I made around a c-section or VBAC (I've gone c-section which is now booked in for Sept!) I also highly recommend St V's if you are open to consideringe other maternity hospitals. David's out of pockets are currently about $3500. Good luck with whatever choice you make!

You will be out of pocket 3k total with David, so that includes all appointments, management fees and delivery.

I'm also seeing David currently for my twin pregnancy (I'm 26 weeks) and have found him great. Like the others have said, he's really casual, very relaxed and low intervention - he's very happy for me to try a vaginal birth rather than insisting on a c-section like some obstetricians do for twins.

He's pretty blunt, but in a nice way, which I really like! I also got chatting to one of his repeat patients in the waiting room one day and she was telling me how wonderfully calm he was during her birth, which was quite complex.

My out of pocket with him has been $3k, including the first visit - and all his other visits are bull billed.

The other doctor at his practise, Megan Di Quinzio, is also lovely.
