Hi @Lucina. Just thinking of you, and wondering how you're going?
Thank you so much for thinking of me. I have done some research and have been speaking with a clinic in Sydney and Brisbane.
Looking at the possibility of coming over in September, but may have one last round of IVF in Denmark first, as I won't get the Danish sperm if I come over there.
There's a question mark over Medicare, so I intend to book a consultation with a FS in the next few weeks to glean the likelihood of being classed as 'Medically infertile'. If the FS is fairly confident, I'll book my flights.
My son is Danish and so I wanted Danish sperm in order to have a similar genetic make-up between my two children. But it's not the end of the world if this isn't possible.
Time in Australia will depend largely on my parents' health. I will return to the UK eventually, but will remain in Australia as long as they need me.
I'm sorry to hear your parents aren't well @Lucina. The reason I asked is because Medicare are pretty hard core with proving a permanent move back. Did you end up giving them a call to touch base & see what they'll accept as proof such as Oz kinder enrollment, UK - Oz shipping docs, UK house sale money, Oz lease, Oz utility bills etc? You may also like to factor in how long it takes for Medicare to re-activate your Medicare status. It can take a good few months & this can be important when factoring in IVF cycles etc. Good luck!
Hello again ladies
I'm just posting this in case it is useful to anyone considering IVF in Europe. I've decided against IVF in Australia for now, as there seems to be too many risks regarding failure of the Medicare rebate and too many 'hidden extra' costs from the clinics.
I'm going to try again in Denmark and will move back with my parents once I have finished attempting.
413 Euro (£304) for a vial of sperm (happily, my donor became available again - the major reason for my altered decision)
Around £1,834 for the treatment + £150 to use donor sperm
£624 for the drugs ordered privately through Healthcare at Home
Total (without the flights and accommodation costs) is around £2,912 (around $5,956 AUD, according to xe.com)
I just got back from South Africa a few days ago. There cost was 7-8k really happy. Just found out yesterday I'm pregnant.
Hi @Lucina. Great that your original donor became available again! If we go again, I'd like to use the same donor again too if possible, but I'm not sure whether it would be possible or not.
I'm sure you've made your own enquiries, but just for comparison, I think the cost of your Danish IVF round was about the same as our out of pocket cost we paid for a round in Australia (we got the Medicare rebate).
Good luck with it!

Hi @Lucina -just wondering how it all went for you?
I watched the BBC documented 'The Vikings are coming' last night - highly recommended for any other single ladies ttc (I watched online but I think it was on Foxtel Lifestyle channel last week).
I am on my first IVF cycle with Fertility First in Sydney, love the care and service I receive there and am lucky to get Medicare rebate.
