It gives me chills every time I see it. It really highlights how stupid it is to imply a girl is "asking to be raped" because of the clothes she wears.

I didn't mean to offend anyone with my first comment I'm sorry if I did.

I might sound very naive asking this, but don't they conduct a medical examination if a rape is reported within a certain time frame? The reason I am asking is maybe the police have closed the case as there was no medical signs of the assault occurring?

Criminals get away with it. The abused is left with a lifetime of pain and the abuser is scott free!
I always assumed it was worse in smaller areas like my small town where everyone knew everyone but it isnt, its a global issue.

Thanks lovely. I have learned to deal with it pretty well over the years, and when my mum eventually discovered what happened she was extremely supportive. Turns out she had the same thing happen when she was younger. She lived in Weipa and was walking home from work one night and was attacked by a guy. He had been waiting in the scrub on the side of the road for her. She rang the police as soon as she got home. They came and spoke to her and the first thing the officer asked was "is that what you were wearing" (it was the early 90's and she had bike pants and a shorter top on), she said yes and the officer told her its her own fault because she was "dressed like a s!ut". I always told myself it was never my fault, nothing I did or said contributed to any of it.... it was all on the scum that did it. It was just very difficult and crushing to hear the people who are supposed to support you in these situations turn the blame on you. Things trigger me every now and then but for the most part I don't let it affect me and my life.

when the case is closed like that - it is usually a case of the allegations being withdrawn. That can be for any number of reasons (and it is sadly likely that the twatt Mayors comments had an impact .. as well as any number of comments from family, friends, police, society in general).

Making allegations of rape, continuing with an investigation and charges .. court .. its so incredibly hard.
