    Hi Emski,

I don't think you need to sign up to SAA Voyager. I received an e-mail from Virgin overnight about the new partnership and the Velocity website has been updated with the new airline partnership:

    https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.co...africanairways

There is no condition requiring the Voyager sign-up. We have flown on another Velocity partner airline (Hawaiian) and had no issues with points claims. We are Velocity members but not members of Hawaiian's loyalty program.

    Sunny

I could only claim the mel-perth sectors on velocity and this was after they announced their partnership and had a triple points offer that I was elligble for - and they lost my luggage!

Actually mine was a retrospective claim so maybe that's why? I booked everything through the SAA website, as they were the cheapest at the time. There was nowhere on the saa booking page to advise of being a velocity member though ...not sure, its worth signing up though for us as you can move Kris flyer Singapore airline points over etc and we have a lot of points with them I don't know why FF programs are always so confusing.
Also my flight was only $1400 return so I can't really complain. It will be more expensive this time around but we'll try to do most of it on points.

We are flying with Singapore (BNE - SIN - CPT over and JNB - SIN = BNE back) but have a short domestic flight with SAA. If we don't get the points for that it won't be a big deal but if Singapore mess us around that might be different.

We are gold FF with Virgin so my main interest in the new partnership is that we will now get lounge access in JNB. Due to the domestic flight we have a five hour layover that I wasn't looking forward to so the lounge will just make it a bit more comfortable.

Emski, do you have a departure date yet?

I don't have my treatment plan yet as Dr Le Roux is on hols, back Monday week...then my Donor needs testing. I always seem to get caught with my Dr being on hols and nothing happening for two or so weeks. We are aiming for lining scan date in Cpt on Sept 7...

We leave CPT on the 5th.

it is 'hurry up and wait' isn't it? Short bursts of activity followed by what seem to be long periods of nothing but waiting.

Sunnygirl just make sure your receipts in SA are valid. It was so weird in Singapore new stores were not eligible. Soooo complicated.

You can't claim points through 2 different airlines for one flight. You'll either use Virgin or SAA. Eg I can't claim Qantas and Emirates even though they codeshare.

No I was only trying to claim from one airline. I joined SAA voyager so I can move my points around.

We feed all our points back to Virgin, to maintain the gold FF status. DH flies a lot for work and thus spends heap of time in airports, the lounge access comes in very handy for him.

No attempt to 'double dip', just handy to know that another airline we are using has a partner agreement with the airline loyalty scheme that we try to funnel our points towards.

DH was adamant that we were going to do the VAT refund at the airport - I usually can't be bothered. There was no line up and we had time to kill anyway. We kept receipts for most things and ended up claiming jackets, sneakers, general clothing, Mimco bag and purse and some jewelry. It was all pretty painless. Just had to show about 5 items out of the 15 things we bought, signed a form then they just put the money on a visa debit card and then we witndrew the $200 4 days later. All up it took about 15 mins! So worth it in the end
