The blood tests are quite common with the clinics here, but are always optional. For me it works well as pathology is a 2 min walk from work and my FS believes she has been able to "save" some pregnancies by monitoring prog levels which is why she hates using crinone as it can't be measured. For me it's piece of mind. I had the WORST experience in Sydney doing my PGD. They couldn't care less, didn't care that my body isn't good at creating my own progesterone, said it was their 'protocol' to just to a pregnancy test and let the body do its own thing from there and I miscarried as my prog level went down to nothing.
My FS specialist was so cranky that things weren't monitored more closely. It may have happened regardless but hey a few extra blood tests can't hurt'. The medical issue is infertility so tests are all legally covered - God knows we pay enough in taxes and private health....lol
I to have miscarried before because my progesterone level dropped. I haven't yet got progesterone level done because I'm only on gestone at the moment.

I'm not through a FS for this I just went to my gp for everything to go over. After doing 27 cycles previously it is just piece of mind for me. I'll only have a couple extra blood tests.

Looks like the donor we want will be able to donate end of January, so now I just have to send the request letter and it should all be set for January. Now I am just trying to get on with life while we wait

Hey Lisa, I asked my gp to just add on progesterone to the hcg test, its easy for them to do and will put your mind at ease. So maybe do that one for your next one?
Gestone is a great way to get your progesterone though so try not to worry.

Lisa that's great news, the waiting is the worst part for me so I hear you on that!

Does anyone know the rules on donation in sa.
You know, how often one can donate and maximum donations, I thought I read that this was quite limiting ensuring that people are altruistic in donating or they can't really make a living off of it? The rules I think in wa are there is a 3 month cooling off period then 3? Month quarentine then they can only donate to max 5 families including their own, and obviously no payment. Just wondering I guess whilst waiting for my donor to have her tests !! Waiting ... Waiting !

Fern girl - I don't remember seeing the 'rules' laid out for DE but the worldwide professional practice for DS is 5 successful donations so it makes sense the same would apply for DE.

Yes that waiting period befor Cape Town is awful as you feel so useless. Then comes the 2ww. Then comes the HCG tests wait. And then the ultrasound wait... Never ending!

Good luck - I have just bought my first Packet of Elevit morning sickness pills (ooh I feel sick ALL DAY) so the waiting is worth it !

5 times apparently with live births so of course that relies on recipients completing paperwork after giving birth.

"According to South African law, an egg donor may have no more than five live born children from their donated gametes. Therefore as a donor you are allowed to donate more than once."
