Default Using superannuation to pay for weight loss surgery

We are looking into this and I'm hoping to hear from anyone who has recently used their Super to do so. From what I have read it is classed as income and will have to be reportable to Centrelink therefore will reduce our fortnightly payments, and increase daycare fees. We are just scraping by and any change in our finance just isn't possible, we have no sway or breathing space.
Does anyone have experience in how to avoid this being classed as income?
It will be going straight from the super account to the surgeon, it likely won't even go into our bank account so I'm not sure why this will affect our family payments.

It was considered income 6 years ago.
I was I your position at the time. My op was in may and a centre link worker advised me (not officially) not to report it until June 29 that way it was taken out of my ft a and b supplement instead of the fortnight payment.

It really depends on your income bracket and how much of the financial year is left to how much it will affect your payment.

I thought @HearMeRoar started a thread on this a few weeks ago?

    I'll try to find it...

ETA Ok obviously I'm losing it. No sign of it anywhere :-)

I think it only takes about 6weeks. Doctors supporting letter, fill out paper work/email it/post. Then it's all done if you get approved. You can even use your husbands if you don't have super.

Thanks for your input everyone 😊 It's for my husband. I like the idea of advising just before the new financial year, it certainly makes the most sense to do it that way. I will take that on board, thanks!
