I've got an appointment with one of the doctors this Thursday, so hopefully can work out a plan and get this show on the road! How are you feeling MaybeBabyIVF?

Going good here. Have had some spotting last couple of days but tests keep getting darker so hoping that's a good thing. My nurse says it sometimes happen. Go for my first beta tomorrow.

Thats a fantastic looking pee stick! Spotting can be scary, but does happen. I had spotting till I was about 12 weeks with my son. Can be the progesterone irritating your insides too. Good luck tomorrow, I'm sure the results will be right on track!

Default I give The Fertility Centre a BIG thumbs down...definitely would not recommend

    Hi All,

I'm sorry to throw another spanner in the works for anyone that is already struggling with their fertility issues...but it only gets more complicated the moment IVF is mentioned...

It's soo important to do your research. If you don't, how do you know you are utilising all of the options that are available without throwing away precious time and money and here's the big one EMOTIONS!

I was ill informed by my gyno/obs and blindly took his advice without realising how limited the options were at The Fertility Centre - Sunshine Coast.

I have had 3 full cycles - the end result - no pregnancy, but I did have 3x 5 day blastocysts frozen on the last cycle...

    Where things went wrong:

No GA for egg pick up! At the 1st EPU I was a star...apparently...that's what I was told. They got 3 embryos, 2 fertilised but only one (3 day embryo) was transferred and the other embryo was discarded (sadly) as the cost to freeze and store was $1670...no medicare rebate...all out of pocket - not cheap or low cost...Especially when other clinics have always offered the same service for $800 (I only found this out recently otherwise there would not have been a cycle 2 & 3 at The Fertility Centre.

The second EPU was very uncomfortable/bordering on painful (different specialist - he's now retired...but still helps out!), ...1 egg...fertilised and 3 day embryo transferred.

Third EPU was also uncomfortable/painful but this time 4 eggs - 4 fertilised - 1 embryo (3 Day) transferred...At the EPU appt the Fert nursed said "You know the chance of a pregnancy is better with a 5 day embryo transfer?" Well this was a bit of new information that no one had mentioned...so upon further questioning...I still had to go through with the 3 day embryo transfer because "we don't do a 5 day blasocyst transfer unless it's a FET" So I paid to freeze the 3 blastocysts ($1670)...I didn't want to discard them as each one could be another little person, and most importantly I wouldn't have to go through a full cycle without a GA because after the 3rd EPU there was no way in HELL I would put myself through that again.

BTW despite paying a premium price to have my blastocysts frozen, none of them have been graded so the new clinic doesn't know what the quality the blastocysts are until they defrost...this is not ideal.

Crinone 8% is their preferred Progesterone - it makes you feel terrible, it is disgusting and it sent me around the twist.

The Fertility Centre only do Medicated FET, the hormones make you fat, bloated and mentally fatigued...I wanted to do a Natural FET...

I didn't end up having a blastocyst transfer at The Fertility Centre due to the next 2 cycles being cancelled...one because I had a Uterine Polyp...the Fert Nurse saw it on a scan up at the time of the 3rd EPU but the specialist couldn't see what the Nurse had seen, so I was only referred back to my obs/gyno when I was about to have a couple of months later FET...apparently polyps can prevent pregnancy...so cycle 3 was likely not going to work anyway...
the 2nd FET was cancelled due to a cyst on my ovary...too bad for me

The other thing some ladies might not be aware of or managed to read between the lines when considering low cost vs regular cost...low cost = low stimulation = potentially lower number of follicles and therefore less eggs because the EPU is too uncomfortable/painful to be awake for if you have too many eggs to collect...if you are stimulated to produce potentially more follicles and the process is under GA then you may be likely to get more embryos for freezing and transfer without going through extra hormones and everything else...anyway food for though... PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS!!

If all of that wasn't off putting enough, I recently received an email from The Fertility Centre advising that they had reduced the cost to freeze down to $500...bargain basement prices...remember they are still making money off this cost...only thing is 4 months earlier it was $1670...just feeling somewhat ripped off...additionally the email was sent to all of the patients in their address book...not undisclosed recipients...so a massive breach of patient confidentiality on that front...majorly annoyed at this stage.

Despite attempts to get a partial refund, I was shut down, and my complaint was basically disregarded by the Scientific Manager who had no empathy or interpersonal skills.

Just so everyone knows...alternative clinics offer different options. A good clinic will have the decency to inform you of what all of these options are. I would recommend Fertility Solutions as my experience thus far has been informative, caring, helpful and positive. My new Obs/Gyno Dr George Bogiatzis has recommended natural therapies to boost my chances of falling pregnant and he is genuinely interested in helping me to achieve a positive pregnancy.

I do offer my congratulations to anyone that has had success on their IVF "journey". I continue to remain as positive despite the time and money that I have wasted with the wrong clinic. The emotional stress has been the worst part...I initially though I would be able to rise above all of that but at the end of the day I am only human and I do believe that I deserve to be treated better than a cash cow that just keeps paying for crap service. Hope this assists anyone that has hit more than 1 road block! Don't stay anywhere you don't feel is looking after you, trust your instincts and listen to your friends that have had been through the journey.

Default The Fertility Centre, Sunshine Coast - anyone

@stilltrying2016 I tried twice with the fertility centre and both times cancelled due to too many follies. My first go with QFG and I'm 10 weeks pregnant. I've chosen Dr George as my OB and have my first visit tomorrow! In hindsight I wish I'd gone straight to a full service clinic but the figures are daunting! Oh and I'm definitely glad I did EPU under general! But TFC staff were so lovely to me and supportive, I just wasn't the right fit for their service :-)

Default The fertility centre sunshine coast

Thanks for your reply, and congratulations on your pregnancy! I definitely have good things to say about most of the nurses. Two in particular were exceptionally nice and very kind and understanding. I felt it was important however to highlight the downsides to low cost ivf because of the limitations imposed by their business model...btw this business model is ultimately more important than achieving an outcome for their patients...as you said you didn't fit into the level of service that they offer...neither did I. Unfortunately, this didn't become apparent until I had gone through a significant amount of treatment, emotions and expense. I was also advised by my referring obs/gyno not to question what the nurse had told me in regards to getting rid of the cyst as it seemed like I was "undermining her" it's ultimately my body and I wanted to understand what was going on!!...anyway that was the final straw just prior to having my my patient confidentiality breached and finding out that I was $1670 out of pocket for nothing...unfortunately due to the lack of grading, the scientists at my new clinic have no idea what quality of embryo/blastocyst they are defrosting.

All round my experience was very disappointing at the fertility centre and I should also add that despite asking on numerous occasions I was never given any actual statistics in regards to their successful outcomes. I just wish I done some more research or found this forum earlier.

If the management staff had properly acknowledged my concerns when I raised my above mentioned issues and perhaps even given some consideration in regards to a small refund of the freezing costs, I probably would have moved along quietly and not bother to enlighten anyone, but with all that I have been though I felt it was important to voice my concerns in regards to how unethical some low cost fertility centres manage their businesses and hopefully save someone from repeating my experience. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post, you have helped to reinforce my position about how important it is to explore all of your options. All the best and kind regards
