    Default icsi/ivf

Hey all, I'm new to this but thought I'd ask if other people had been in similar positions and their outcomes. Today I had my egg retrieval and although they had predicted 11 eggs, and I had high hormone levels, they only managed to get four. All my fertility is fine, already have a child from a previous relationship, my partner has severe low sperm count. But now I'm left a little worried and wondering if we will even get anything out of it now that our chances have dropped so dramatically. We originally started with over 70% success rate. So, has a similar situation happened to any one else?

Sorry I can't help here but remember it's quality not quantity. When they scan etc they check your follies but they can't be sure of the maturity of those eggs until pick up. The bloods are supposed to give them an idea but so much can vary. For example your blood results may have been higher (and led them to believe that there were that many mature) because you had more less mature eggs than what they counted in the scan.

Don't stress about the number because one of those 4 could end up being your bub 😀

I had a similar thing happen to me in my last egg pick up. I had very high E2 levels and the scan showed something like 16 follicles. The FS even told me to expect lots of eggs before going into the retrieval.
He only managed to get 7 eggs and I was shocked and disappointed.
The FS said that most of the follicles were empty but he didn't explain why sometimes this happens.

However, From here 5 eggs fertilised and they all grew to blastocysts by day 5. I had 1 transferred (bfn) and the other 4 frozen.

the moral of the story is that although it may seem like a failure already, these 4 eggs could all fertilise and become a good embryo. Like the previous poster said I really believe it's quality over quantity.

    Hi Shak,

Very much the same story with us, our very first round IVF/icsi, I responding well and was told to be expecting lots of eggs and we only ended up with a disappointing 5, of which only 3 fertilised. We had 1 transferred at day 5 BFP, our first DS born back in 2011. So as others have said the moral is don't stress, your eggs are probably super-dooper ones that are all charged up for making a baby for you.
