Hi, I have poly cystic ovaries but not PCOS. I have done 2 rounds of IVF as I have endometriosis as well my FS found that my ovaries create a lot of follicles but the eggs I produce aren't of a great quality that's is how he determined that my ovaries are poly cystic. I was put on metformin as they have done research to prove that PCOS and your insulin levels are linked and if they can control your insulin levels it is more likely that you can produce better quality eggs. Most of this was all only learnt in my case after all of my embryos from my 1st IVF cycle failed to grow pasted day 3. I have learnt that very few cases are the same an it is all trial and error with sucks!

    Hi estpl6,

I have pcos and was diagnosed through an internal ultrasounds that showed the large amount of cystic eggs in my ovaries.

I was on metformin for my pcos for about a year and a 1/2 to hell balance out my insulin levels and help with regulating my periods, which i feel it did after about 6 months.

I then stated on clomid about 2-3 months ago (while still taking metformin) and had amazing results.
I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant with Bub #1 and have my first scan tomorrow.

It was a miracle that the clomid worked first go for me.

If you have any other questions about any little details please feel free to ask, as it sounds like you do possible have pcos and we could relate and we could all help you out.

Good luck and best wishes xx

Thank you Mamasupial, MrsSMS and Kay1989 for your helpful replies.

Mamasupial, what do you mean by 2 out of the 3?

Kay1989, may I ask who prescribed you with metformin - GP or OB? How do I know if I need it to be prescribed metformin for my insulin levels to be even out?

Mrs SMS, what's FS? Sorry for the ignorance.

Anyway, I'm thinking of seeking second opinion from an OB who has treated before, or should stick to the one I have now? I don't know if I have displayed classic symptoms of PCOS, or that my OB just dismissed me as having it, without asking for specific blood tests to be done.

    Thanks again!

You need 2 of the following things:
    - bloods that indicate pcos
-high number of follicules on a scan
-symptoms such as weight gain, excess hair, acne etc.

I've booked my pelvic ultrasound in for Friday which I will then see my GP the following week who will refer me to a FS to prescribe clomid.

I've just read the whole thread and couldn't help but smile with all the positive results. I'm so happy for everyone that has got BFP while on it. Its really made me feel a lot more positive about starting it! Hopefully I get BFP in the new year
