Default So, I went and got a second opinion

Have you looked into metabolic damage? When u've been dieting, what caloric intake are you having?
And for what period of time are you reducing it for??

Long term low caloric intake will lower your basal metabolic rate. Meaning you will hafto go lower and lower to lose anything. And if you've been on low calories for quite some time it makes it almost impossible to go lower/ therefore impossible to lose weight.

What type of exercise? Steady state cardio?

I'm no expert on this and in fact I know very little, but a few women I know are huge supporters of a low carb high fat diet. They talk about it together a lot on Facebook and post a lot of the research saying how good it is and I often read it. I can see that it certainly works for some people. I think if you google Christine Cronow (I'll have to look it up to verify) you will find a lot of information on it.

I really feel for you Little Ted! I struggled for about 3 years with suddenly gaining weight and not being able to shift it no matter what, and it was such a disheartening experience. I also got the same type of comments from drs, so frustrating to not be taken seriously!! In the end I went to a naturopath who said it sounded like I had gut/liver/kidney damage from drinking coke/energy drinks for years (I had given them up before this) and that it had caused a range of problems. I got into a treatment plan with them and it has been easier to lose weight since. I'm now about 3kgs lighter than pre-baby weight I also highly recommend using a calorie tracking app if you're not already, so that you can make sure that you're having enough calories per day when you exercise, otherwise that can trigger starvation mode too.

A friend of mine struggled for about 10 years to lose weight, then saw a nutrionist & PT who have worked together on her pkan and she has lost 30kgs over 3 years. She went from always being a size 18-20 to now being a size 10.

So I personally would recommend a naturopath or nutrionist if you don't get anywhere with Drs. I personally find that they have a more wholistic view of health than most Drs when it comes to weight loss.

Can I just say that any doctor that dimisses you or suggests that you should lower your expectations of life should question their chosen profession. I'm lucky that I have a sympathetic GP now but that has not always been the case.

Many years go I remember going to see a doctor because I wanted to try a new weight loss medication that had been released to the market. She said ok, but I had to prove to hear that I could lose X amount of weight in a given time. (I can't remember the exact figures but it was something small and doable int he short term.) I did it and went back to her with the expectation that she was now going to prescribe me this medication. Instead she changed her mind and handed me a leaflet that told me to eat more fruit and veggies and less saturated fats. As someone who has struggled with weight their entire life I can tell you the calories, fat and nutritional value in just about every day food. I'm also vegetarian and already ate plenty of fruit and veggies. I was so furious I walked out of her office and wrote a snotty letter to the practice manager. I was so upset when I left I couldn't figure out whether to light up a cigarette or go buy some chocolate.

I really struggle with weight management now. I work out at the gym (hard) 6 days a week, take prescribed (and managed) weight loss medication and all I can do is maintain. I have about 20kg to lose to be in a 'healthy' weight range.
