Default good car/van for a family with 4 kids

Sorry, I know this has been posted before but wanted some current input. Can anyone recommend a family car or van that is not super expensive (although we will get one 2nd hand) and not massive in size to fit 4 kids or more (for extra friends etc).
Happy to look at vans but don't want something mammoth.

KIA Carnival. It's a great 8 seater with lots of room in the boot as well

I have a Mazda cx9 and I LOVE it! Lots of room for everyone, really nice to drive and it's not too big. My only complaint is the boot space isn't huge when you've got all seats up but if you have the two back seats folded down there is heaps of room. Also the two back seats split so if you only have one child in the back you can have one seat down and it gives more boot space. You can get a second hand cx9 at a reasonable price if you shop around.

Kia Carnival. We can fit 3 kids, plus a family friend and a wheelchair in it.
