Default 3 and a half year old weeing in potty but won't poop..

Hi as the title suggests I was wondering if anyone has been through the same and has any tips?

My son will deny needing to pooh then do it in his pants give minutes later. Will even sit on the potty and 'try' and say he doesn't need to then does it in his pants.

He has done it a couple of times so I know he can but it's few and far between.

I have tried rewards and talking seriously to him. We throw out his favourite undies as they don't like poo poo on them but nothing seem to work...

I had to back right off and I mean right off like let it go. I took the potty away and let him ask for a nappy. We got a Thomas little toilet seat for toilet and he wouldn't sit on it. I got him to sit on it for 10 seconds and he got a treat. We did that twice only. Then I never mentioned it again. He's nearly 4 and out of the blue he asked me to come with him to sit and do wee. I said maybe one day you will do a poo. Well blow me down yesterday he asked me to sit with him as he tried to do a poo. I nearly died. It was a pebble but I think we have broken the mental barriers...

I think it's easier for girls cause they use it to wee but boys stand up. Thankfully he sat down to wee and got used to it. It tough work this toilet training business
