Default What do Placenta tablets do

The only thing I have heard about them is that they can reduce your chances of PND. Are there any other benefits they are supposed to have and if you have taken them do they work?

I have been looking into them as well, I think they help with milk supply and energy too.

As well as helping to prevent pnd, they are supposed to help you gradually wean off the pregnancy hormones, help supply and help with iron and other nutrients.

I got ds's placenta encapsulated. I don't know whether they work but on days I took the capsules I felt better and had more energy than on days I didn't.

I had my placenta encapsulated and definitely think it was worthwhile.

As PP's have said, they are meant to reduce PND and give you more energy. I also think they helped with my milk supply. I gave birth 9 months ago but still have some pills left, on the days I take them I am less tired and I seem to have increased milk supply. I had a caesarian and had a fantastic recovery which I also think was helped by the pills.

Do you mind if I ask what the cost was having it done? I'm considering doing the same, but don't even know where to start as far as who does it, how much it will cost me and what the whole process is.

I am getting mine encapsulated when i give birth next week. The cost is about $250 depending on the provider and I was able to ask the midwife at my OB office about who does it / how to find someone. My provider had promotional material in the OBs office (with all the other pamphlet stuff) there are a few ways it can be done (raw/dried or chinese steamed - which is apparently better - more research, longer use overseas, more higenic) Good luck, this is #3 c sec for me so am hoping to gain any additional benefit for recovery anywhere I can

    Mine was $200.

Google "Placenta Services Australia", that will help you find a local provider.

I'm really interested in getting this done for my third pregnancy (due in August). It sounds extremely worthwhile and im disappointed I didn't consider it with my first two.. At the time I was too narrow minded to even think about it
I think it helps with all the above mentioned things, energy, milk supply, recovery, PND... All things i have struggled with after each child birth..
I wonder if the capsules would leave any kind of aftertaste.. Sounds gross but i just want to get it down and wait for the positive side effects..
If you search 'placenta' in facebook there's lots of pages and suppliers that come up .

Thanks everyone they sound great! I had severe PND with my first and although I am fully recovered now I am so scared of it happening after this pregnancy so anything I can do to reduce my chances would be great! The extra energy would be awesome as well.
