    Default Wwyd?

    Dh just got made redundant!!

Im currently a SAHM & was due to go back to work 3 days per week from the start of May & ds was going to go to daycare starting April 13th.

We cant afford to pay the mortgage, daycare & living expenses on my wage alone.

Im not sure if there is still a full time job for me there as i told them i was only coming back part time

We have some savings but not sure how long they will last & how long it will take dh to get another job.

I don't know what to do about daycare. Do we cancel ds's spot & let dh look after him? - but then we have a problem when dh gets another job as we might not be able to get him a daycare place, at least not quickly (ie within a week or two - we need dh to be able to accept any jobs offered, not have to say 'sorry i cant start till we find daycare'). It took months & a lot of stress to get him this daycare place.

Or do we still send him to daycare & drain our savings to pay for it?

And what are the rules about returning early from leave? Can i do that??

God i cant believe this is happening right now. Im so freaked out that we will end up losing the house

What does your DH do? Personally I'd keep the 3 daycare days in hope he can find a job before then. Also because I know how hard it is to find childcare, if I left Id probably never have gotten a place with a young bub.

With returning to work from leave, are you getting any paid maternity leave? I think if I want to go back early, I just have to give a certain amount of notice (4 weeks I think) but I'd forfeit what is remaining of my Mat leave pay. I'd talk to your HR department.

Go and talk to daycare - see if you can shuffle back the placement by a few weeks but ask how flexible it is? They might be really good about it if you explain to them your issue If they wont, I'd say send him in the hopes that DH gets a job pretty quick..

I know, im so concerned about not being able to find another place.

Ds was meant to go 1-2 days per week in April to transition so that only gives dh 2 1/2 weeks to find another job before daycare starts.

Does anyone know if we are eligible for anything from Centrelink now?

Possibly Newstart for your DH? I'd get in contact and see what they say.
You should be getting childcare rebate as well and childcare benefit depending on your income.

Did your DH get a redundancy payout? Hopefully that will cover living expenses for a few months until he finds work again.

What sort of work does he do? Is it highly specialised?

I would probably try to go back to work earlier and let DH do the transition days at day care so at least you've got money coming in ASAP.

Def let Centrelink know your circumstances, you might get CCB and more FTB

    So stressful!

Yeah you'll probably be fine to start earlier then.

I think I have to give 4 weeks notice to vary my return to work agreement, but honestly, if we were in a situation similar to the one you described, I think that my manager and higher ups would be ok with me going back earlier.

You should be eligible for something from CL. I'd give them a call now to get the ball rolling. DH will need a separation certificate from work. With any luck you might get 100% child care benefit and it will be cheap for the days you send your DS
