Can anyone tell me the usual tradition for gifts.

My partner wants people to just buy whatever they want. I'd prefer they put towards something that we wouldn't usually be able to afford (like a more expensive Pram).

How does that usually work? I'm not one who ever asks for help... so I don't know if I'm being rude by thinking that?

For baby showers it's unusual to ask for or receive money and I've never heard of that happening. I think you can set up gift registries at baby stores now but I've never come across one. Personally I think baby showers are still a time when you let people buy what they want.

Don't underestimate the smaller gifts, the clothes, singlets, bath stuff, toys etc all add up to a lot of money.

I had a friend who had her baby shower registry at Toys R Us/Babies R Us at Gepps Cross. I'd never heard of people doing that until I got her invitation with all the details

I think if it's your parents offering to chip in then by all means tell them the most practical thing that will help you that fits in their budget.

My inlaws didn't help but my parents bought our pram I just let them it's nice enough.i wouldn't ask people etc but if you had a baby shower I kind of would have a gift registry mainly because I'm picky and I don't like toys things like that

You can def get a great pram for that price also if you like a pram at the store check out gumtree!!
