Default 2 year old circumcision - best way

Hi there - my 2 year old has to be circumcised because of phimosis and related difficulties.
He has been seen by specialist paediatric urologist.

I am just seeking advice from anyone who has been through this and what procedure was used for anaesthetic (general/otherwise) and operation itself?
I am stressed out of my mind!

My eldest had his done for medical purposes just before he was 2 years old. His was done with plastibell and it was honestly super easy and straightforward. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer what I can

Hey I know this is an old thread but just wondered if you guys could offer any advice? Just wondering how you knew that phimosis was causing a problem in your babies? My ds1 is 18 months old and a few days ago his penis seemed a bit swollen and the tip very red. When I tried to look he went crazy, crying, pushing my hands away etc. so I took him to the Dr this morning and she said he has balanitis so has given me some antibiotic cream and advised daily cleaning. Now I know from reading that phimosis is normal in babies and the gp confirmed that the foreskin looks ok but my husband is quite concerned as he was circumcised as a teenager for phimosis so he thinks there is a problem. I know it's not particularly hereditary but I think he's more aware and concerned about the issue. Any advice would be appreciate.

My little one ended up being circumcised at 27 months. He had phimosis which resulted in balanitis. The doctors said I could wait and let it recur a few more times or just go ahead. The balanitis was so awful, his temp was soaring which lead to terrors and the shakes. We had him in the emergency department at 3am. He was the same pushing away and in agony.
We figured the op would be less traumatic than another infection like that. And it was!
The doctor said a few more like that and he could become hesitant to let anyone wash it and not want to go near it himself - then leading to further dramas. He said it's just as much psychological as physical.
We are so pleased it's done. It's a real relief. He had a general and a penial block. Recovery was not long at all. The next day he was back running around and list nappy changes a bit sad for about 10 days by not as sad as when it was infected. Good luck!
Not sure where you are located but the surgeon we had was great as was the anaesthetist. Jennifer Wheatly and Dr Das.

Thanks @Bateland. Thankfully my ds's balanitis doesn't seem to be as bad, no pus or sign of obvious infection, just redness and pain. It does seem to be improving though and he will let me put the cream on gently. I can relate to the psychological trauma bit though as when I tried to clean him in the bath last night he really didn't want me to touch him and was getting very upset. I'm not sure if it's just because it's sore as he will let me put the cream on or if he just doesnt like being touched. Being my first I just never thought about cleaning it thoroughly and now I'm wondering if I should have been doing it earlier so he's more used to it. I'm just going to take it slowly and not make a big deal out of it and see if he gradually gets used to the daily cleaning. Fingers crossed it's just a one off. X

I'm going threw this at the moment with ds1 and thinking ds2 had the same problem. Ds1 is seeing the urologist in 3 weeks for phimosis and to talk surgery. Ds2 I'm waiting on as is not a big problem yet. He had other issues.
Ds1 is not happy with anyone even looking so putting a cream on is not easy. He is 7.
I how you have all had good out comes so far.

I'm sorry you're going through this at the moment. I hope your ds1 gets sorted soon. I know when you start reading into it many people are against circumcision but I think when it's causing problems it's much better in the long run. And I imagine it's less traumatic surgery when they are young rather than as a teenager. Good luck. I'm hoping my ds1 will be fine as I keep reading that it's normal at his age but I'll be keeping a close eye on things.

Ds1 is booked in for a circumcision in the next 4 months. They think ds2 will be the same.

Thanks. He was not happy to show the doctor but after just a Min the doctor knew what he needed. I'm glad it is under general. He has done that before.
