Default Public Primary (Redlands area QLD)

Hi. My daughter will be starting Prep in 2017, and Id just like to start considering schools to send her to. We currently live in Thornlands, which is the bayside area of Brisbane, however we will probably look at buying a house before she starts school, but wont be leaving the Redlands.
I went to Thornlands State School and that is definitely high up on my list of schools, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it, and any of the other schools in the Redlands.
    I am most interested in
    - Thornlands State School
    - Bayview State School
    - Cleveland State School and
    - Hilliard State School.

Im thinking I will send her to Cleveland High when the time comes, but where her friends are going will factor in to that decision.

Also, What factors do you think I should consider when deciding? How do schools generally differ from each other?

    Thanks.

Both schools old and run down...Cleveland Sate School so much so at the time when my kids were there that when it rained to much the school flooded everywhere... we are headed back to QLD in less than 3 years and my kids will be going back to Bayview. .......

Hillard has a great reputation. I have friends with children at the school and they say such great things about it.

I agree Bay View is by far the best school. We spent 1 year at thornlands state school and had a terrible experience. I would not recommend sending your child there.

It's not just that the school is old and run down, they seem to be a bit too relaxed with uniforms and they are not strict with the rules at all. My daughter moved there from a good Brisbane school with top grades, within the year they had dropped significantly. Also her attitude was disgusting. Since being at Bay View for the last year and a bit she is back to achieving and her behavior is also much better.

    Hope that helps.

My son has started prep at cleveland this year. From the walk through to the pre prep days to the meetings with the principal and deputy. All a great experience. I had 4 schools on my list when we initially started looking. Ormiston. Birkdale state. Cleveland. Bay view.

From the get go I wanted bay view... before I did my research. I had a good look at the academic results of each school and compared them to each other. Had a look at the naplan results for the previous 2 years and did a comaprison. Bay view came last in every area. I quickly crossed bay view off my list because other than being a shiny new school, it really has nothing going for it, academically anyway. And to me that is the most important thing. Ormiston is the best public school in the redlands if you ask me. However being out of catchment my son wasn't accepted. He was accepted to both cleveland and birkdale state (both out of catchment for us) and after much deliberation we chose cleveland.

Anyone you ask will have an opinion on a school. If their child was bullied or had a negative experience there they will not have anything positive to say. I suggest you do your research on the schools and see how they compare to each other in the aspects that are important to you (ie academic, athletic, languages etc)
