Default What are you looking for in a pre-school/kinder?

Registrations for 4 year old pre school open on Monday (Vic).
I'm new to this and, as silly as it sounds, I don't really know what's important and what sorts of questions I want to ask at the open day.
What was important to you when looking for a pre school.
What are some questions I need to ask?
    Thanks

    Play based learning
    School readiness program
Qualified staff and good child/staff ratio
Being able to drop in anytime to check out the facility.

    All of this, plus -
    1. do they do indoor/outdoor play (kids basically choose all day where they'd like to play or if they are all either in or out at the same time),
    2. snack procedures (all eat together versus "roaming snack" where kids eat when they choose) 3. Incursions/excursions, extra programs such as a borrowing library?

When you visit to take a look, what kind of vibe do you get from it? I know it's a bit vague, but I think as a parent you need to pay attention to your intuition as well and if you get a good feeling/vibe then that's definitely important.

    I also would look at

    -staff qualifications
    -structure of learning/curriculum
    -cost
-facilities (is there a nice outdoor play area, plenty of resources, clean and tidy etc)

I chose DS's preschool because it has a fantastic reputation and it was personally recommended by one of DS's early intervention educators (DS is on the spectrum).

The first time we visited to hand in our application I felt instantly comfortable with the centre. It has a warm feel to it and the staff are nurturing and very friendly.

They present as thoroughly organised and stringent with rules and policies, which made me feel comfortable knowing they have their act together.
