    Default What do doctors do?

    Hi,
Sorry, haven't been on here much. Started TTC back in October 13.
Went off pill, period came back for three months then nothing.
    Had scans, nothing wrong.
Been seeing a nutritionist but that hasn't really helped. I've had one period in that time then nothing but light spotting here and there.
So my question is, if I go back to the doctors, what will they do? Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks x

i have been ttc for 12 months. i went to the doctor last week and he has sent me for ultrasound and bloodtest. And hubby needs bloodtest and sperm count. Im suprised they haven't sent you for an ultrasound yet.

What scans did they do OP? Was it a fertility specialist or just GP?

If it was me I'd be asking GP for a referral to a specialist. They'll likely do more bloods, an ultrasound maybe an assessment cycle to monitor your hormone levels through your cycle. They may also do dye flush to check your tubes are functioning. They'll also do bloods for your partner and sperm analysis.

They might even suggest a laparoscopy depending on the results of the other tests. It's a relatively non-invasive (key hole) procedure under general anaesthetic. That would be a bit down the track though I'd think depending on your results.

Best to get things rolling as soon as possible as there is a looooot of just waiting in this process. For eg our appointment for first visit with specialist had a 4 month wait!!

All the best with it 😄

Scans don't show a huge amount. Given you aren't getting a period it sounds hormonal to me, it may well be PCOS. Get day 21 bloods to look at your hormones and see if you are ovulating. If that comes back clear you may need to look at a referral to a gyno to get a laparoscopy. Other tests include a HSG which is where they run dye into your uterus and tubes to see they aren't blocked.

Your partner also needs a sperm analysis.

It may be that the pill isn't out of your system yet.
It took my aunt a couple of years to get any bleeding again, and she only started ovulating (and getting a proper period) two years ago- nearly 10 years after going off the pill.

There was nothing wrong, per se, it just stayed in her system.

Thanks for the responses everyone! Its really appreciated. I had blood tests done to check hormones and they were fine. Had an internal ultrasound and all was fine there too. Mum had the same problem when she went off the pill (would have been good to know that a bit sooner Mum!). She went to specialists etc and they never found anything. She then had two babies in a very short amount of time.
I'm 29 so unsure whether to start the next phase and go back to the doctors or just give it more time.
Might sound weird but if everything was working and we just weren't conceiving I'd be okay with that. I feel responsible which sucks.
I have an awesome husband who tells me he'll be happy either way so that helps. Again, thanks for the help. X

I was on implanon and once I came off didnt get my period for 3 months. Doctors never seemed concerned so i went to a naturopath.not sure 8fca coincidence but i did get them back within a month of seeing her and they were 28 days forvthe 1st time ever. I have endometriosis so period was always all over the place. I would def get some blood tests done but just offering another option ☺
