Default Does anyone have a nanny?

    Hi all

Does anyone have a nanny? If so, how does it work? Did you hire them through an agency, or through something like Gumtree? How much roughly do you pay? Does it work well for you? Is it the case that there's no govt subsidy for nannies at the moment, unlike the child care rebate?

I'm looking at childcare, and wondering whether a nanny would be at all feasible..

    Thanks in advance

    Hi JustJaq.
There are so many options for you.
I have worked as a nanny & have friends who have done so also.
You can expect to pay more through an agency then privately/directly (like gumtree) however the agency will also do all of the back ground checks for you which saves you time.

Again fees can vary drastically. Depending on location, time frames, length of employeement etc.

Expect to pay between 20-30 an hour.

I used to charge 25.00 per hour with a minimum 4 hour booking (I also did cleaning & cooking while there)

I would drop my rate for regular/weekly bookings too.

No government subdicey at this stage no.

Personally value for money you'd be best going for family daycare.

You can get a govt subsidy if you meet certain criteria (eg I qualify because I have 3 children under school age) but it's still fairly pricey. To get the subsidy you have to go through an approved agency provider

I do believe nannies can be registered with centrelink and allow the families receive a rebate. You certainly can in Melbourne, when I was doing my nanny training we were told about it.

If you go on find a babysitter they have marked next to there name if they are centrelink registered.
