A friend of mine is pregnant from RPA. She and her DH had pretty good success there. Just be aware that it's far more stretched in terms of resources so the nurses are a bit more bossy and it's not tailored to you like the private clinics. Good luck

Hello @Juve17 I'm @ScubaGals friend and am currently 22 weeks pregnant with my first transfer from RPA..

They are obviously a lot cheaper which means you don't get the frills but I'm happy to forego free tea and biscuits and a smile for 3K..

My honest opinion is that they know 100% what they are doing and that was the main thing for me. I never felt that I was being looked after by people who didn't know what they were doing. All the midwives were older and 'matronly' which I preferred and knowing it was Genea science, labs and specialists made me feel like I was in the best hands for knowledge.

If you want to know anything else feel free to PM me

Hello! Yes, I've done 6 egg pick ups there (and 3 at genea). It is less tailored and I would suggest booking in with your FS as soon as you've had the first appointment with him/her as it takes months to get back in line! But you can always speak to them over the phone.
I think the nurses are very good, though you might not be able to speak to someone straight away as they are usually very busy but they will call you back the same day. Also, it can depend on the doctor you get. I had one doctor (Dr Birrell) as my usual guy (Dr Marren) was away and he wasn't as thorough (he's retired now I think).
Also, they they manipulate your cycles to do egg pick ups and transfers during the week. They don't do them on the weekend. Closed on sundays and only someone on call on the saturday morning.

So, yes, you get less service and tea and biscuits but its $1500 per cycle compared to $5K plus at Genea (and its the same labs and scientists and doctors as genea). The cost can become a huge added stress so its a good option. Unfortunately for most women it doesn't happen in the first go. I was told 90% of women who get pregnant nab it in the first 4 cycles. So best to budget for 2 to 4 at least.

You have to go to the hospital for the drugs and egg pick up. Bloods and scans are done at the medical center 2 mins up the road at Carrillon Avenue

    hope that helps!

I wanted to see dr Alison gee.is that possible.and for embryo transfer did they use ultrasound. In westmead they do not use ultrasound for transfer.what is the waiting time between 2 cycles. Normally I have very irregular period and if I have to wait for normal period what happen then. In my current clinic they always gave me provera to start a cycle. What is policy there. Sorry for many question and bad English. Hope someone answer me

Hi Sumaiya generally with public treatment you aren't able to choose your doctor. You could ask and they might accommodate you but it's not a given.

In terms of the treatment plan, they will look at your past history to decide your treatment plan. I'm not sure about ultrasound for transfer but my guess is they do - one of the others will know.

Thanks everyone. It's been a big help. I've done treatment at Genea before and have a wonderful 2year old from there. And yes the service is amazing and as you all know the price starts adding up this is why we wanted to try the public system at RPA.

    Hello @Sumaiya..

They used an ultrasound to see exactly where they were putting the embryo back.. Is that what you mean?

With the public system you have to have a months wait in between each cycle to be able to claim the Medicare rebate. For example, it you have a negative on your first cycle then you'll need to wait a month till you can go again.

If your period hasn't come then they will make you take a blood test and then offer you Provera..

    @Juve17
Glad to help! I asked the same question back in July so happy to pass the baton on

Don't get me wrong. At times the briskness of the midwives at RPA really got my back up and one day I actually snapped at one and she apologised. We also had a total of 8 minutes with our allocated FS before we started treatment and my DH came out a bit traumatised. It worked for me tho as I could walk to RPA and then on again to work. The cost was also a huge win for me as I was paying for a wedding also.
If it wasn't Genea science I may have been a bit wary. I also didn't have a hugely complicated case. PCOS and MFI of low morph which just meant a straight forward treatment plan.

I guess it's just different for everyone and you have to weigh up good customer service and much more personal care V the need to just get the end result and overlook the other stuff.
