I've just looked at the photos, I agree with @DT75 how could a jar make such a perfect round hole... Perhaps your MIL made such a fuss about not damaging the tiles because she had already damaged them and wants to pin it someone else?

    THIS IS A BIG DEAL.
An apology for what was an accident will not be sufficient to calm her
I did the same thing with a jar of Vegemite when my kitchen was brand new! I didn't tell my husband and he is the one who cleans the floors and has still not noticed! It's been 5 years since we built our house. Don't tell her, you will never hear the end of it.

One Christmas while FIL and MIL were overseas, we stayed at their house (FIL offered and we stupidly accepted) for two days. When I went to use the microwave, I noticed there were some crumbs in it before I used it. I decided not to clean it just, you know, because I'm an idiot and thought "Ha! I will point out she left crumbs in it and isn't perfect after all!". I've never heard the end of it! It still gets brought up how we (read: I) left the microwave with crumbs in it after using it because MIL would NEVER leave the microwave in such a state!

    I wouldn't admit it lol
I'd wait till she discovers it and then when she asks u, say oh yeah I noticed that when I first moved in and wondered how you did it? I figured that was why u must have been worried about the tiles as u had already chipped one. 😈

If she can pick out a 2mm chip on a whole floor of tiles she's got issues. If it were me I'd play dumb.
I'm living at my folks and I noticed a big chip in the tiles in the laundry. I asked mum how it happened and she said that's been like that for years.
I thought it only happened recently.

You know what - I reckon you should eye ball her and tell it to her straight.

Wait for her reaction and then calmly ask "what would you like me to do about it?"

FWIW I have had another look and I honestly can not see it.

Even through a real estate I'm sure that would come under wear and tear. Its honestly so small, wouldn't even be worth the money to fix it. Its minor.
