Good luck @Crazycat and @ScubaGal!! Not long now until you will have your bubba a in your arms but nothing more frustrating than those last days. I suggest go to a movie or out to dinner while you can or just enjoy sleeping through the night and long showers.

afm all going well here. Isla has started smiling now which melts my heart. She is also more alert and enjoys playing on her play mat and chatting to her toy animals. So cute.

Hey @KitiK (or other lovely lady),

My pediatrian wants bottle top-ups in the night-time as baby isn't gaining much weight. So he gets both breasts and only after 20-25 mins each breast he gets the bottle. Right now he was crazy hungry ripping my nipples and screaming like he was getting no milk after 15 mins on one breast and 5 mins on the other breast. i gave him a bottle for 20ml and he's now happy on the first breast - what do you think? Maybe just comfort sucking? i want to keep breast feeding like 6 months and its only 2.5 weeks in.

Hey HIA, sounds like he is hungry, but your BM 'runs out' after about 15 mins (the time it takes to empty a breast all depends on the individual - not a pre determined timeframe, as you can probably attest!)

Maybe the Dr is trying to ensure that bub gets past the first lot of milk (watery that quenches thirst) to the more rich fatty milk that fills them up and helps to put on weight, but theres just not enough there yet - hence putting a timeframe on it? The Dr might also be trying to get you to increase your supply by feeding for longer? Doesnt help if he doesnt suck comfortably because there is nothing there for him though!... The more you feed the more milk you produce (well, for some people - others will never produce enough, hence the use of supplements and fenugreek etc to help)

So once bub is fed from breast and has the bottle he is comfort sucking as he is nice and full?

I would maybe try to express after his feed on the breast to see if there is anything left? I might also try to express a little more often (in between feeds and keep it for bub) to try to increase your supply. You also need to be eating enough in the early days to ensure good milk supply as well.

Other than that, I'm really not sure :/ I hope you find some answers, you just need to do what you feel is best for the both of you. Breastfeeding is great for mum and bub, but only of you are both getting what you need. There is nothing wrong with formula feeding - I will probably start ff as soon as I get a new job and go back to work. A bit dissapointing for me since I bf my other 2 for 9-10 months each but will be necessary :/

PS: I have a fast let down and have to sit back a bit to bf otherwise my bub chokes! He also feeds for about 5 mins each side and is done (he is putting on weight etc) so am lucky like that - I know some babies that take up to an hour to feed!
@Crazycat any news? How are you going @ScubaGal? On the countdown!

Congrats to all who have had their bubs and the count down has begun for the rest of us. I've been MIA for a while had no idea what my log on details were so haven't read back. But look forward to seeing lots of beautiful baby pics soon.

Thanks sooo much @KitiK! Great advice and comments.

After a feed, even 30 mins BF, when baby is satisfied i usually still have milk. Expressing i only get 10-15 ml (only hand expressing, machines cost double Oz prices here).

I think that even the limited bottle feeding we've done is conditioning him to faster flow so i'm trying to maximise BF (don't want to lose BF!) then top up. Top ups are usually 30 ml but in the night can be 60ml.

As you suggest i'll express often and try keep supply up. Thanks!!!

    HIA
