Default Gestational and Yolk Sac but not Fetal Pole

Ladies I need some reassurance and some hope here !!

Had an early scan due to previous miscarriages and she could see a gestational and yolk sac which measured well but no fetal pole.

She said the pregnancy looks normal but can't call it viable yet. She said its possibly too early to tell.

Has anyone had a similar experience and then gone onto to see a fetal pole and heartbeat a few weeks later?

I have anther scan booked in about two weeks. No idea how I will get through till then..

So scared to go to the next scan because those results will be the most important one.

Oh Hun, I couldn't read and not reply. How far along are you? Depending on how far along you are, it could be totally normal. It's such a scary and stressful time just try to focus on the fact that you are pregnant and try to remain positive.

    Thanks for replying

I thought I was 6 weeks tomorrow but she said I am most likely earlier that that.

So I'm putting all my hopes on the fact that my tracking is wrong and I am in fact earlier that 6 weeks

Yep, had the same thing at 5w5d when I had bleeding. Sack and yolk present but no fetal pole. They tested my hcg which was nearly 20,000 so she sent me home to wait.

He is now 2.5 years old
Lots of positive thoughts for you

Me too. Had a scan at 5+4, yolk and gest. sac but nothing else, no heartbeat or anything. My hcg was also way too high and they thought my dates were out and the pregnancy wouldn't continue as supposedly with such high hcg there should've been at least a hb. I knew my dates were right. The heartbeat showed a week later at the next scan (6+4ish). He's 5 months now.

Same thing happened to me - went in at 6w by my dates, got there and saw two sacs and yolks but no heartbeats or fetal poles - she said I was likely only 5 weeks. I knew my dates were right so I was really worried. I went back 2 weeks later (so 8w by my dates) and saw two healthy babies with heartbeats, both measuring 8 weeks. I'm now 14 weeks and everything is going well so it can happen! Not every baby will work to the same timeframe. Good luck xx

What you can do if you're really stressed is go to the GP and ask for a quantitative HCG blood test (it's important that it's quantitative so you get the actual number). You also get a referral for a second quantitative blood test two days later. This will show you that your HCG is rising and will hopefully put your mind at ease a little rather than waiting until your scan.
