Oh you'll be there prob the week after me. I leave the 9th October. Immune testing for killer cells. Dr Matthias does it. I wish I had checked it it before I went the first time. I'm not sure if ivf Australia does it but you can ask them.

Oh and the cost is more than a choker that's for sure esp with the dollar being so bad. It hurts that's for sure.

Dr Sacks at IVF Australia does some immune testing but it isn't as thorough as Dr Matthias.

OK thanks Lastchance I will ask my FS regarding the immune testing! Sounds like it is definitely worth doing!
Wow, yes we will be there just after you!! We are flying out on 23rd October!! Heres hoping the Aussie dollar picks up before then!!!
We are now just looking at where to stay - I like the look of Kailua but just wondering if it will be a hassle trying to get transport to Honolulu for the appointments. We really dont want to bother hiring a car - having been before what would you advise?? We are thinking of doing half our time in Honolulu and the other half in Kailua. They advise not to swim after the transfer dont they?

I always stay at the ilikai and book through Waikiki beach rentals. Best price around and a 10 min cab ride to the clinic and everything really.

OK thanks Lastchance, I will check it out. I think we will probably stay in Honululu for the first few days then head on over to Kailua. We have been looking at some of the apartments on air bnb and vrbo as we want to do our own cooking.
Is it true that after the transfer they advise you to completely rest for 3 - 4 days? Over here, I tended to take the day off when I was having the transfer but then get back into work/normal life the very next day.

Yes they say rest for 2 days. I don't really see why as here it's in for transfer and back to work the same day. They do advise no swimming. I stayed in the room the day of transfer but did venture out the next day, maybe just don't go playing tennis or running around which you wouldn't do anyway.

yeah that is really different to here. still, given the amount of money we are throwing into this I will definitely follow their advice!! we had better make sure we are stock piled wtih good books, magazines and movies for those few days!! i am a real water baby and love swimming in the ocean so the no swimming part will be really frustrating!! better make sure i get lots of swimming in before transfer!
Lastchance are you using donor sperm as well? we are, unfortunately my husband has a blockage and the sperm that they retrieved from his TESA here was not good quality so we are having to do donor sperm too. Ive never had so many forms to fill in!!
Until what date will you be in Hawaii? I was trying to go back through the thread to see where you are at - are you going for a FET this time?

Hi @Onemoreshot no we didn't use donor sperm. This is my third time going back so I'm pretty disappointed as I honestly didn't think it would be this hard. Probably just my ****ty luck in life. Are you using a local donor? We had to fly ours in which took the cost up again by $5k then we did Pgd so another few thousand again. So bloody expensive hence why this is my last try. Mind you I had 12 normal embryos so I can't complain too much. I have noticed a lot of the girls that go to Cape Town don't ever seem to have any frozen. Seems odd to me. I'm there from the 9th - 13th. There is a lot of paperwork to begin with. Have you got your calendar yet? That's full on too.

Oh geez that is really tough Lastchance!!! I really feel for you!!! But hey, you know what, 3rd time lucky!!! I will be sending you positive energy on those days!!! Yep the costs all stack up dont they!! We chose a local donor to keep cost down a bit. We have not chosen to do Pgd but i am now wondering if we should....is that the tests they do on the embryos to determine if they are good quality??
Yeah I looked closely at the Cape TOwn ones too and also noticed that they didnt end up with any frosites. We also looked at Malaysia, Chile, SPain and Argentina which are all loads cheaper than Conceptions, but they could not give us a fresh donor....Chile was going to be our most likely option as my husband is from there, but they were really slow in responding, could not give us a definite answer on many things which in this situation is not reassuring!!
Bugger - we will miss you by about 10 days!! We arrive on 23rd October!!

How old is your donor? Honestly we only did Pgd as we wanted to be able to choose the sex. I figure I've spent enough money that I want to be able to choose. We got 44 eggs, 35 fertilised and we chose to have 15 Pgd tested. Not sure what happened to the rest to be honest. Anyway out of 15, 12 were normal which is huge. My point is your odds are a **** load better so not sure if it's worth bothering to spend the extra to get them tested. It just means you also have to be there a bit longer. It only takes 3 days to get results. Is your donor proven?

Oh that's a shame we could of met up for dinner or something.

    Are you in Sydney?
