Emma I used ababySA and my original donor was found to be bipolar. I didn't have to pay again. They offered that to me. They should be offering that to you as it's their responsibility to ensure the donor is appropriate. BMI is obvious.

Be thankful Cape are so fussy. That's the best I can say.

I just quickly tried to find another donor to rectify the situation and cycle at the same time.

Great, thanks for that KMP. I might see if our second choice is still available.

I wouldn't think you would have to pay for testing for that EmmaJane - if it were results from bloods /psych tests I'd understand but this would be pretty obvious you'd think!?

I don't think we should have to pay becauae the donor agencies are respondible for testing, interviewing and making sure donors fit the requirements.

This is in stark contrast to Australia where anyone who 'wants to donate' is given a go whether they are suitable or not. The agencies really do havd to run their 'potentials' through rigorous testing before accepting them. If money is changing hands they have even more obligation.

Does anyone know if we choose a new donor do we have to pay the donor agency fee again?

I'm a bit ****ed off as well as surely the donor agencies should be aware of bmi cutoffs and could have screened for that before placing them on the website - they have there height and weight details so it's easily deduced. I knew she had a higher bmi just from looking at her profile, but was never made aware that this was a problem and as it is lower than mine I didn't think anything of it. Such a waste of time and money!

Emma - you shouldn't have to repay the agency fee. Our very first donor was found to not be suitable after her blood /scan testing due to her having her own (unknown) fertility issues. Our second choice was with the same agency so we didn't pay anything extra. They also offered to refund if we wanted to choose a donor with another agency.
CFC may charge a nominal fee for testing of a new donor (from memory it was a few hundred rand)

Oh that's such a shame EmmaJane. I hope you don't have to pay any more for a new one. Hope your second choice is available.

Thanks for all your responses ladies.

After learning the disappointing news this morning the donor agency quickly responded and advised us that the other donor we had been considering initially was still available. They also said she had donated previously with success, so we shouldn't have any issues when she does her testing.. fingers crossed anyway. I often think that things happen for a reason, so maybe she was always meant to be our donor as I had liked her profile the best originally but went with our other donor as she looked more like me. I guess we shall see.

Default Egg Donation in South Africa #8

    Hi all!

More great news on here with Annabelle!
PSS - jazz festival is why hubbie agreed! I don't want to go - maybe he could escort you! Haven't got those accommodation days booked yet..
Hopeing4best - will be at vineyards for first night of 21st.....but looks like will miss you
Canuck - congrats for reading through all threads - a feat in itself!

So after last weekends stress of finding had booked the wrong flights (and getting full refund from Qantas - amazing!) hoping for more relaxed weekend. Felt a little guilty for rebooking with SAA πŸ˜„

Just a a tip for lurkers re: accommodation - many of the boutique hotels don't take children at all - they are adult only but they don't say up front - you don't find out until way through the booking process. Also many of the booking sites will say hotels don't take children upfront and quote you two rooms - which makes me laugh as would dearly love to put the 4 year old in a separate room .....
So have contacted hotels directly and it's been ok to have a 4 year old with you! Vineyards do weekend deals of 1350zar/night. Am finding some of the airbnb ones expensive when you add in cleaning fees and airbnb fee - same as a hotel in the end - still looking for middle week - ending at spier which know sounds ridiculous after potential transfer to go the wine lands - but looked relaxing πŸ˜„

    Good luck all!

Not ridiculous at all - we ended our trip with three days here. It really was relaxingπŸ˜€ the estate grounds are lovely to stroll around, there is a big pool and smaller splash pools near your rooms. A day spa and the food was superb in the hotel restaurant. If we go back again down the track we will definitely head to Spier for part of our trip again...
