They used ICSI on 15 eggs. When they called yesterday 10had fertilised for sure but 5 of them hadn't progressed as fast, at the time of speaking to us they didn't want to 100% rule them out invade they were slow developers. As for freezing them on different days, I have no idea really for their reasoning. That's a question I'll have to ask at my follow up. Now I have to get my body healthy as I have mild/moderate OHSS. It's hard for me to drink 2-3 litres a day as I barely drink. DP is walking around like he's on ice skates, I think he's doing better than I expected. It's amazing, you can barely see the incision, it just looks like a small divot.

That's a pretty good outcome so far. 10 fertilised. Now they just need to keep dividing.

    Hi @DeterminedOne.
I saw your post on the June thread...
Congrats on starting your first cycle

Which Sydney clinic are you using?
Fingers crossed for the mTESE! Will you have a back up plan?

DH and I did our first cycle in April... We did EPU and mTESE on the same day. Unfortunately for us, the mTESE wasn't successful, but we had donor sperm on backup so at least it wasn't a wasted cycle.

That's great @allykat, so many of us hoped and prayed for an OA result and you got it. Enjoy the ride from here!!
@bbhope I have heard of freezing at day 3, 5 and 6. Some clinics choose this strategy but not sure why. What I do know is that the blastocyst we had put in on this second cycle was a Frozen day 6 actually and that was the one that took whereas the fresh day 5 didn't. I think some clinics think a day 3 has a good chance if developing to full blastocyst in the uterus, but I am not entirely sure. Just a random piece of info I recently read - ICSI IVF day 5 blastocysts have a higher percentage of being a boy... More boys born to IVF ICSI day 5 and day 6 blastocysts than girls so maybe if the day 3's survive the thaw higher chance they could be girls.

So sorry to hear your first cycle didn't stick. But great news about getting some embies. Always good to have donor - a few of us had this result and haven't looked back. So have you got some more frozen embies to try another cycle?! X

@JenniwithanI: yes, I heard that IVF ICSI resulted in more boys. The theory is that boy embies tend to divide faster than the girls. When it comes to day 5, that's the one being picked for transfer. Statistically speaking it is true but no one can say it for sure. It would be interesting if our bio embies work out and a good test for this theory. One was an on time grower and one was a slow
grower. One day 5, one day 6.

Anyway, I had one on time dividing embie and two slow growth embies this time. The slow growth are day 6. I don't know if I would ever want a second child. I always just want to have one. If I would, it would've been interesting to test the theory as you know that I am having a boy.

I am not a fan of transferring day 3 embie. In a natural case, day 3 embie isn't in the uterus but still somewhere in the tube. So no benefit of transferring it earlier unless there is only one embie for the cycle. Growing to day 5 is a natural selection process to wipe out those incompetent ones. A lot of low cost clinics only do day 3 transfer and thus lower success rate. one might end up spending more $ with a low cost clinic because most of those transfers won't have resulted in pregnancies.

With all the luck in the world for your journey @DeterminedOne.

This was possibly true for me. One of the two embies I had transferred divided really quickly.. I think it was about 12 cells on Day 3, when 8 is the norm. And both of them were more advanced than the other two that were frozen on Day 5. Which makes me wonder how likely it is that my frosties are female. It kind of annoys me that if they don't work, I'll never know! Lol.

    @Jenniwithanl

Yep, we had 4 embies. The fresh transfer was a Chem and having the second transfer on Wednesday 😃
Going in for my first pregnyl injection today. Are there any side effects?

Good luck @Barca07. Very interesting convo on the boy/girl theory. DP asked me yesterday how they grade the embies and if we say had 3 embies at the best possible grade would we be allowed to pick which one to transfer. I laughed and told him he's not a lab tech but surprisingly what he was getting at was if we could "feel" the one for us. He rarely thinks that path and normally laughs at me when I go to the psychic fairs. On the case of the freezing the day 3embies, I think their plan is to defrost and continue to grow them before transfer he did comment on the fact the day 5 was the best for transfer. I just have to put my faith into these people as they have the experience, knowledge and technology. I'm so new at this I don't even know what OA means.
