Has an update from OP been deleted? Just wanted to know what happened and if the baby is ok?

So.... I dunno. I still feel sad for the baby. I get that it's physical needs seem to be met from what the police saw, but I am still worried about it's emotional needs.

I heard the mum talking to someone before. She is very upset. I feel bad that she feels bad IYKWIM, but my concern is for the baby, so I do think I did the right thing.

Thanks all for your advice and concern.

OP thank you for contacting the police. There is nothing cowardly about making a report about the safety of a baby. The reason we have the police or the DoCs helpline is to encourage the public to make a stand against child abuse. Now I'm not saying this is a case of child abuse -- you've done your bit and now the authorities need to monitor/investigate.
You did the right thing and of course you feel guilty now because no one likes "dobbing" on someone, especially a new mother. However your action may have a very positive effect on the wellbeing of this baby.
If you still continue to feel this baby is at risk please keep reporting.

P.s I work in child protection and every report counts. Think of it as a piece of a puzzle.

Id be calling DOCS she may actually need help. Docs aren't the bad guys like some people seem to think they will always try everything they can before taking a child away. She may just been their help.

Good on you for calling the police but yeah I think DoCs may be the ones to get in touch with.

I rang the police on the advice of FACS.

DOCS may be in a better position to actually provide some assistance to the mother.
The police would file a report with FACS to follow up if necessary.

Thankyou, I will try this. I've been having trouble seeing posts that I've written and other peoples sometimes, so the conversation seems really patchy, very annoying!
