    Default First time home builder

    Hi Ladies,
We are researching a few different building companies to build our family home this year. Looking at Coral Homes, GJ & Metricon. Has anyone built with these companies and were you satisfied with the work they produced? There is so much choice out there...

    Hi,

I haven't heard if two of those, but haven't heard great things of Metricon. They're all marketing and styling - their houses look awesome but mainly because they are styled and furnished really well and the inclusions in all of their show homes and marketing materials require tens of thousands of dollars of upgrades for it to look remotely close.

Is recommend looking at product review dot com dot au as they're great with reviews. Metricon have bad reviews in there and that website saved us from even looking at some big named builders as they had such bad reviews.

We builtwith Coral and the build process was smooth and I'd happily build with them again.

great thanks for the feedback - I will be sure to look on product review.com also. It is very easy to get swept up by beautiful displays, but when you crunch the numbers you have to pay so much extra in many cases. We are just wanting a dependable building company with quality work for a good price --not too much to ask surely haha. Any recommendations anyone else?? We will be building Coffs Harbour area..

Just make sure toy get a home owners warranty in case they decide to go bankrupt. It's the law. Should be in there contract. Good luck.

Also which ever builder you use, employ an independent building inspector to do a staged inspection and tell your builder that's what you're doing, this way they will have to be on the ball and ensure they're building a quality home and don't take any short cuts.

My hubby is a builder and now the council gives out firms so when each stage is done they come and expect I think. I remember filling out part of the form

    Inspect*
And no money should be given up front. It should all be in the contract. Also look at their history on the HIA website, if their members, etc
