Ok. I have a feeling you will disagree, but, if it was obvious that my thread was not meant to bag out anyone who has the name, why on earth are you getting so riled up?? My grandmother's name was Jadwiga. I'm European FTR and I wouldn't expect anyone to know the name. However, if it were the name of a commonly consumed alcohol variety, I wouldn't take offense or go off on a tangent if people saw it differently.

Wow! Things have taken a turn in this thread!! I myself found the thread amusing until the sour note was added to a harmless fun topic so if that means I also have no class then cheers to that!

I have one friend with that name, and I think the jokes are getting a bit old after 32 years of Aussies getting their jollies out of making fun of his name.

I don't think people realised it was a real name either, which is why I was surprised when the ridiculing continued after my first post pointing it out.

Alrighty then. So this thread was clearly intended as a bit of fun. For those who are unaware, it is a long running bh joke to have a bit of a laugh at "Aussie bogans"- the definition of which has gotten out of hand on bh.

Obviously the op did not know that other cultures around the world used this name, that we can agree upon.

I think it has all gotten out of hand and turned into a teeny tiny tit for tat.

Bogan names are funny. Real names are not. In the context of this thread, I think if a male Shiraz were to find it, they would understand that the fun comes not from the name itself, but the connotations associated with bogans having the name Shiraz- just like the wine. Just like the bogan connotations are what is so funny about Dazzza, or Kymm or Eponnee.

I actually thought your original post was a joke, I didn't realise till I went back and re-read it that you were serious. It's possible others did the same.

As Noms said, we were laughing at the way Australian bogans name their kids after alcohol, not at people who name their sons Shiraz because it's a perfectly acceptable cultural name. ☺️

I feel sorry for your friend though, he must cop it a lot. It's a bit like Asian people who move here with last names like "Wang" or "Dong" and have to hear people make jokes about it constantly!

My maiden name was remarkably similar to 'bumhole' if you didn't read it properly 😔

    Random irrelevant fact there.

Except they're not :/ Christ take a chill pill k?

It a type of grog, given that it's pretty obvious that's what op was talking about (the current trend in naming kids after alchohol) I think you're just looking for a fight, go troll somewhere else.
