    Default Knighthood for Prince Phillip?

I'm beginning to wonder if TA is really working for Labour trying to sabotage from within.

Its the only thing that makes sense in this big senseless mess that is Australian politics right now.

What on earth does a prince need a knighthood for? How do you add 'sir' to all his existing titles?

In any case I can't imagine someone in Prince Philip's position caring about getting an Australian knighthood.

Its like someone submitted the nomination for a joke and somehow it got through...

I honestly wonder this, myself! I'm a Liberal supporter and I can't stand him. The problem is they can't get rid of him until after he loses them the next election!

I know a number of liberal supporters who are absolutely dismayed at how awful he has been. Its like he's treating Australia as his own personal plaything. So embarrassing.

It's hilarious. He couldn't think of a single Australian born in this country. Even his other nominee, (regardless of how worthy) was actually born in Scotland.

It really is like deliberate sabotage..you can almost imagine the policy advisers discussing it with him -

"Alright team, who could we give the first knighthood to, now that we've revived this long dead honour, on Australia Day so gets a good run in the papers...?"
"An Aboriginal leader? Tom Calma? Noel Pearson?"
    "Nope"
"A scientist? Elizabeth Blackburn - our only female Nobel Prize winner?"
    "Nope"
"Someone who has contributed to climate change awareness? Tim Flannery?"
    {sees look on Tony Abbott's face}
"Ok, Ok that one was a joke. How about someone from the arts...Cate Blanchett? She's a woman too - the chicks'll love it"
    "Nope"
"Ok, how about someone who the public will get behind, really get people liking this Knighthood idea - a cricket player!!"
"Nope, I've got a better idea. Prince Phillip".
    ...
    [crickets]

Hehe, technically you shouldn't be able to give a person a title if they already have one that is well much higher in the rank of titles. He is married to the Monarch for Australia! They are probably having a good private laugh together right now.

I'm so shocked to read that you are a liberal supporter! You've always convenyed compassion, understanding. .. a social conscience through your posts. Essentially all qualities liberal supporters don't have. Just..wow!

As for knighthoods, isn't it wonderful to see the prime minister tackling such important and pressing issues.

dont get me wrong HM - I hate some of the philosophies of the Libs ... as much as I hate some of those of Labor.

I do have a social conscience and compassion that the Liberal party these days seem to lack They make it difficult to support them thats for sure
