This morning I washed DD's brand new school uniform ready for School next week, but I wash everything new as I want to wash the starch etc off the clothes before they're worn.

May be an internet rumour only, but I have heard sometimes new clothes can have traces of formeldeheyde / other chemicals from the manufacturing process on them.
Not a rumor, everything manufactured has traces of formaldehyde, the worst being new furniture. I always wash the kids clothes before they're worn.
