    Default Sleep school update

I know everyone is waiting for an update so I thought id post here

Just got home from a week at sleep school. Honestly it was one of the hardest things ive ever done. When you first get there its really overwhelming. The evenings are the worst as you can hear babies crying everywhere you go.

The first couple of days involved ds crying quite a lot but he was never left alone to get upset - they taught us to listen & tell the difference between when he is just winging or protesting & when he was actually upset. Once he got upset I went in & shushed patted till he was calm & left the room again. I needed to pick him up a couple of times in the first couple of days as he wasnt calming but by wednesday he no longer needed this. He mostly slept for at least an hour for every day sleep there. He also started sleeping through the night!

Yesterday he self settled in the cot a couple of times after only 5 mins of babbling/winging & no assistance required from me. We couldnt get him down for the afternoon sleep yesterday but he settled pretty well for the evening sleep after that.

He self settled himself for his first sleep at home today after approx 10 mins of babbling, winging. No crying!

This is a baby who up until this week had needed to be rocked to sleep, had never self settled in his cot (had just been transferred there once he was asleep) & was a catnapper!

Its an amazing difference after only a week, hopefully we can maintain it now we are home.

That's wonderful! We went to sleep school when DD was 4 months and have never looked back. I really hope you can start enjoying your DS now that you and he will be better rested.

Great to hear it went so well! I've found with my babies they will test you out a few more times before things become smooth sailing, but as long as you keep being consistent you now have yourself a self settling baby. Congratulations!

Great news! What was their advice re: awake times? Were you on a schedule while there or did you just go by tired signs?

You have given everyone who has a bad sleeper hope their bubs can self settle too one day. What piece of advice would you give everyone about your time there?

A squared we went off tired signs but loosely watched the clock as well.

The one piece of advice id give anyone is to go in with an open mind but expect crying - you wont make a change without crying but just know that you dont need to leave your baby to scream themselves to sleep.
