    Default Advice needed

DD has a birthday party coming up. It is one of her quite close friends.
I offered to make the birthday cake (as our gift) as im a cake designer and i very much like doing things like that.

    Problems...
DH has been called away on a job for 2 weeks, including the day of the birthday party, normally not a problem but i am working that day.
My mum is watching the kids for me and she doesnt drive so no way of getting there.

I feel like it would be really rough on DD to see me making a cake for her friend whose birthday party she cant go to.

The lady of the birthday girl offered to take DD and drop her off after but i have to admit im not terribly comfortable. Its at the local swimming pool so i really would want someone actually there with DD. The birthday mum will be busy with everything and it just doesnt sit right.

Ive mentioned this to her and she understands and is happy to organise another cake.

DH says 'Just get someone to cover your shift'. I would but i have taken so much time off over the last month for our kids birthdays i think ill be pushing my luck taking another day off...that and i want extra work when school goes back. Doesnt look very good asking for more shifts when im taking so many shifts off.

DD is going to so disappointed.

    Any advice??

Does the lady who has offered to take DD have room for your mum too?

Can you not tell who the cake is for and make a little cake for your DD to share at home?

No room for my mum..plus DS will be there too. The lady has 2 kids so DD, mum and DS wouldnt be an option.

She already knows who the cake is for.

Is their another party guests parent that you could ask to take your DD? You could even see if they had room for your mum to come along.

Any other family members that could take her? Sister/brother or a close friend?
