If you like it and have decided you can pronounce it however you like, I'm not entirely sure why you're asking for opinions here?
You've obviously made up your mind!

For the record - think that name is heinous but little Xander/X-Ander/Exander isn't my child.

The OP has actually posted that they're going to take the suggestions on board and go back to the drawing board so they haven't 'made up their mind'. I think they've shown a pretty good attitude towards the thread given the negativity they've come up against.

@terryg, you've clearly already decided that this is what you want to call your child. It's up to you and your wife to decide on the spelling that suits best.
Be prepared, however, that your son may decide to pronounce it the 'normal' way, with a 'Z', when he is older.

I think we will go with Xander with the X pronounced, as someone posted, I forget who sorry, friends and family will know how to pronounce it from us, its only strangers who will pronounce it differently to how we do, even then when we introduce him to strangers it will be the X, Xander, and they will know. As alluded to previously the English language is always open to interpretations and pronunciation of words varies across different countries and even our own country, ie. Castle. We are happy with our choice and I appreciate and value everyone's opinions on how pronounce it and spell it.

Yep I think spelling it the normal way is the best way to go. X-ander and Exander both look pretty silly.
Most people will pronounce it the normal way and more likely than not he'll just end up answering to both names, or, he might even decide he prefers it the normal way and just go with that. In the end if it's spelt the normal way he can make that decision without having to change it.

    This is a fair point.

I always think about how things will look on CVs. I would call him Alexander and use the nickname X-Ander. My nanna was named Susan, but everyone called her Celia. If he tells people his name he can use the nickname, but use the other for official documents.

@terryg I think you've taken some harsh responses in this thread with good grace and I applaud you! Naming your child is such a personal thing. It's a hard thing to do to put a name out there that's a bit different. You name your child whatever you want! By the time he is born people will associate that name with his gorgeous little face and that will be that. Go with what you love and all the best 😊
