A similar thing happened to me, because I only had my period once in three years and then fell preg! I went for my dating scan and was only 5 weeks 3 days and they could see a yolk sac but I didn't find that very reassuring. Went back in three weeks (8 weeks 2 days) and saw my little bub and his/her perfect heartbeat. I'm now 13 weeks and things are going well. I hope you are as blessed as I am. I would book in for around 8 weeks, you can definitely see a baby and hb by then x

yep - ask for a dating scan.

usually the general rule is, the earlier the scan the more accurate the dating.

Cells divide at roughly the same rate for the first few weeks ... so the measuring the size of the foetus (via internal u/s) will give you as accurate Due Date as possible.

As the pregnancy progresses, cells divide and develop at different rates, so the same size foetus might be 12 weeks 1 day, or 13 weeks 5 days ... its much less accurate.

HCG levels are not as accurate, as everyones body produces and excretes HCG in different levels and in different times. A level of 5492 might be 4 weeks or it might be 6 ... its not very accurate to determine an EDD.

    Best wishes

I'd be requesting another scan at 7-8 weeks gestation.
My first scan at 5.5 showed a sack and yolk but nothing else. My bloods were quite high but they still booked me in to see the heartbeat at 7.3 I think. I'm a panicker and couldn't have lasted the wait to 12 weeks.

Best to have another scan instead of worrying piece of mind is worth it

    Hello
i feel for you as it can be such an uncertain time. Personally after my mc a few months ago, i won't be leaving the docs without a scan referral for 7-8 weeks to check the Bub. Also don't fret about the symptoms because mine went around 7 weeks and sometimes I really didn't feel pregnant at all!
    good luck

    Congrats again on your pregnancy

i had had a scan last Saturday, I was dated at exactly 6 weeks and we were able to see the hb through an abdominal scan (not internal). You might have just been a couple of days early so I would definitely ask for another scan. The longer you wait the more you get to see but I couldn't wait lol. I have a second referral from a different dr (long story) and I'm tempted to use that ultrasound as well, it will cost another $140 but I just don't think I can wait from now until 12 weeks to see everything again...

Thanks so much everyone for the replies I definitely think I will organise a scan. I think I need to wait maybe another two weeks to be around 8 weeks at a guess.

    Waiting impatiently

You would probably be okay at 7 weeks, but I was glad I waited til 8 because baby is actually shaped like a baby then Keep us posted! xx
