What sort of things do you want to make?
Eg clothes, quilt/blankets, baby thing likes bibs or nappies etc?

My tip would be to find a pattern with lots of clear instructions when starting out. Also if making clothes, do something basic first to get yourself familiar with the machine and not get overwhelmed with difficult patterns eg. Simple skirt with elastic waistband.
Also there's heaps of videos on YouTube.

Thank you, I'm doing this in a class. Not at home.
I would like to make little bags, plain quilts if possible. House decor.

Argh, trying to do a rolled hem in chiffon. Driving me crazy, I really should stick to fabrics and patterns in my skill range.

Cute! I've got a spoonflower order on the way, there was one that I couldn't decide whether to get the cotton or the jersey.. So I got both. Such a fabric addict.
