Default Thoughts/opinions - Gold Coast Uni Hospital

    Hi Ladies,

I have just been to see my GP, who gave me the options of Logan, Redlands or GCUH - I immediately said GCUH being a newer hospital would most likely have better equipment etc.
So tell me your experiences - have I made the correct decision?
This will be baby #1 for us so freaking out somewhat!

    Also due date of 27.6.15

I am hoping so! Dr has got all of my scan and blood test results going there and my 16 week apt is to be held there so I am assuming I would be birthing there too? As my first this is all very new to me!

I had my first son in 2006 at the old gold coast and did not like it. I had my daughter in 2008 at Redlands and LOVED it. Had my own room, no one was pushy, and I could have bubs in my bed, not sure what it is like now though. Unfortunately I wasn't in the zone to go there for my current pregnancy so out of Logan and Gold Coast Uni, I chose Gold Coast. I'm due in 4 weeks so I will let you know my experience then. I took the tour last week in the birth rooms and the ward once you have baby, it looks great. If you have a water birth, they have amazing big baths in most of the birthing rooms. Partners can stay the night with you in your room once you have had bubs but the little side bed is 'little'. I doubt many men would fit on it comfortably. From what I have heard, you don't stay there very long after giving birth either. I think it was 2 days for a vag delivery and 3 for a caesar. So if you had baby on a Monday before 12noon, you would be discharged before 11am tuesday (or wednesday for caesar).

Thank you ladies! I attended my 16 week prenatal appt there a few weeks ago and the midwife was lovely! Very caring and understanding of my mental health issues including a follow up call, as well as helping me to try amd get an elective c section due to my complete and utter fear of a vaginal birth! And absolutely can't wait to hear your experiences Clyon!

I was so scared to birth naturally as I have anxiety I thought I would have a panic attack in labour! Ha but I got to the hospital at 11:30am waited 10 minutes for a room the midwife checked me I was 9cm and 5 minutes after that I was fully dilated went to the delivery room I did not even think about being scared I was trying to get comfy! Not to mention the delivery was massive!! I had a shower (amazing 2 shower heads) and then it was push time honestly the midwives there were so lovely I had 1 in the room to start and 5 minutes before DS came the second one came in they just let you do whatever you want! Not to mention I work I worked in the food court and all my work friends saw me in labour hahaha!!

I have heard nothing but good things about the new GCUH. Their facilities are state of the art, all birth suite rooms have birthing pools (I believe) and they are a tertiary hospital so have all the specialists if anything goes wrong. I know someone who is due to deliver there in the next couple of weeks and I've asked her to suss it out for me because I have a professional interest

By memory when I got a tour of the birth suite they had 5 or 6 rooms with the baths... But man they are like a spa haha they are amazing!!
Oh that reminded me, when we got a tour they said if you come in when your in labour and there's a birth room with a pool and there's 2 midwives who are trained to do water births you can have one!!
