Default Any experiences with Primary Ivf?

@LillyM just guessing here, but ICSI would be the back up plan if IVF don't work. I don't think they'd just throw away healthy eggs after almost two weeks of injections. That wouldn't be fair for us, with all the pain we've got to go through (plus the amount of time spent going to BTs and scans appts). I'd definitely ask.

One of the scientists directly called me and explained what happened. You deserve to know, at least until you get to speak to your dr.

Nurse called: of the 12 eggs 7 were mature and 5 fertilised. Really happy with that number. I should expect ET on Monday depending on how they develop in the next two days. If they start to slow down on day 3 (the common issue with sperm quality), they will transfer on Saturday instead.

    Now the waiting game.

Oh @LillyM, I am so so sorry... it's absolutely gut-wretching news. A big big hug for you. Give yourself some time to grief. When I had my m/c a little more than a year ago, it was devastating and we allowed ourselves time to heal. it's never easy to get over the news, but I agree with everyone here that the more informed you are, the more empowered you feel going forth.

Don't blame yourself @LillyM - there are so many factors, some of which we can't control. You gave it a good battle and that's all that matters for now. Let us know what they say about the ICSI.

Awesome news @Kookii! Congratzzzz! Finally some positive today...

FYI: got the call from chief nurse - they don't do rescue ICSI out of the 24hrs window for ethical reasons (more risks of abnormalities) which is fair enough.
Out of my 7 eggs, 6 were mature, and sperm was good quality, so they don't know what happened. How frustrating.

Guess we are good candidates for ICSI next cycle.

She kept saying the normal percentage is 60% eggs fertilized when I got 0% so I tried to keep calm and polite but srlsly, don't see the added value to keep repeating that.

Anyway, I'm gonna have a break from all this, think I need a mental recovery...

@Kookii - what good news. Grow embbies grow! and be strong for them too hun!

afm - I have had both good and bad news.

Good news is 13 out of the 23 eggs fertilised.

Bad news is because I am showing signs of ohss, ET won't be until after next cycle. So depending on number of "survivors", they will get frozen until the next cycle. The nurse is hopeful that a number of them will make it to Day 5 and they will call me about numbers frozen next Wed. What a wait!

She's mentioned that my ovaries are still very "busy" so expect to feel sore and bloated for the next week (and she also said how I am feeling is normal and will be ok as long as it doesn't get any worse). She's said that given pregnancy will compound ohss, they don't want to risk it. I was looking forward to being PUPO so that's quite a disappointment.

I am just hoping I have a few warriors in there that will survive the next week and freezing...

There you go @LillyM- IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT!!
Thats definitely positive news. unfortunate about the rescue ICSI but they are thinking in your best interest.

Take as long as you need to recover hun. Come back swinging when you're ready knowing that you can fall back on ICSI.

Please stay around and keep us posted. xx

Congratulations @VickyP!! Thats a great number. most grow and make it through to day 5 as well.

Gosh your poor ovaries - in full repair mode I'd imagine. If its any comfort, most docs suggests freezing all embryos rather than transferring them when the estrogen is too high- it affects the implantation. So its a bummer that you have to wait, BUT you want your baby to grow in an stimulated environment so they can snuggle in nicely.

We will be her to cheer you on when you DO do your transfer

@VickyP congrats and look after yourself. It may be that you and @LillyM have cycle/FET the same time.
@Kookii I am so happy for you. After last cycle you have improved the results out of sight. You and your husband must be so relieved.

Having cycle buddies is very supportive and feels good. But when one succeeds and one fails, its bitter sweet for both. I think the benefit of support outweighs the sticky situation. Dont know if I worded that right, but I hope you all know what I mean.

Thanks @tjuls - useful to know, and I also keep telling myself it's all about the timing.

The nurse joked about my ovaries being "over achievers". According to my last scan, minus the number of eggs taken out, I am supposedly having another 20 "busy follicles" in there, trying to figure out what the h*ll happened. I can so imagine them being annoyed at getting disturbed only to be shushed back up.

I have been drinking loads of Gatorade, which has helped. Feel a bit better today overall, but still bloated and constipated (sorry, tmi i know) Have picked up some pregnancy-safe constipation meds as advised by nurse and I can't wait for the weekend to be here so that I can put my legs up and relax. Poor DH - he will be inundated with chores!
