Does the butterfly turn? It looks likt it could be one of those handbag hook things...the butterfly sits on the bench and the hook hangs underneath.

It's a handbag holder for when you are out. The butterfly stays in the table and the hook part hangs down for your handbag.

Up to you to decide if it's crap or not!

Yep, that's a bag hook. The butterfly should turn so that it sits on the edge of a table and then you can hang your bag off the hook part. The idea is that you keep it in your bag and use it when you go out, so that you don't have to put your bag on the dirty floor or on the table.

This was more a sign of hubby and I being busy/stressed/hopeless numpties and not the fact that we didn't appreciate great Aunt Gladys and the dinner.
I put it down to it being a crap year. He and MIL were going through a nasty divorce. He hated all women except for his daughter.
He bought the little BIL's a PC each. SIL a car, and DH got a tube of toothpaste.
I saw it as 'oh crap WM is now engaged to my son... i can't forget her now... let's see... oh these will do" lol

Lol but it looks so different to the handbag hook she gave me last Xmas! That one I knew what it was straight away! Guess I can now replace it with this one

Love my MIL heaps... Often get garden orientated stuff that I really appreciate though this year I had a good laugh as my present included not one but two ornamental birds... A metal duck and a brass flamingo. Big ones!!
I'm petrified of birds!!! My SIL and I laughed as she hates birds too... My MIL said it was to keep the real birds out of my garden! It will keep me out of my garden too lol!

I have/had 2 salt lamps. There are a lot of claims into purifying the air, good for asthma/eczema/allergies, getting rid of pollution, cigarette smoke. So I got them, they are very pretty, one of them is shaped like a rose! One day my friend who is a scientist walked in and saw them, asked what they were for, so I told him. He gave me one of *those* looks, sighed, opened his mouth to lecture me, and I told him to shut up because I had just bought them and I didn't want to hear it lol. He briefly told me that anyone who claims that the tiny amount of ions that come off one little lamp can do all that stuff is delusional, and that as long as I know it's simply a pretty decoration then that's ok.

Yep, this is why one of mine is in the bin, it was in the kids room. The bulb kept blowing, and when I say blowing I don't just mean stopping working, I mean it would pop and explode and fizzle. It did this several times, even after I bought a new cord/setting for it because the old one shorted out. It was just too suss for me, especially being in the kids room.
The one in my room, the bulbs just don't last and I got sick of going to the specialist lighting shop to buy them. I also couldn't sleep when it was on, so I turned it off at night which you are not supposed to do. So as a result it leaked a lot, and even having it on a plate it leaked so much it overflowed the plate and dripped down my side table, rusting the silver legs and making stains on the carpet.
I still have it because it's pretty, but I'm pretty sure I'll chuck it at some stage.

The thing about my sister is she would have a list of expensive items that she would accept and tell you if your present was crap. She'd also price all her gifts she received and whinge if it didn't amount to a certain target she had to be able to brag! One Xmas I spent $200 on my sisters gift-really good quality bath stuff and she gave me a picture frame with my two fav singers in it-scrapbook style. Ummmm thanks :/
After that, our family decided on Kris Kringle gifts instead-I was spending $1000 on gifts and barely getting anything back. Kris Kringle has definitely solved gift giving!!

My SIL is like that. Always bragging about her house and car and expecting everyone buy expensive gifts for her grandkids.... then would buy our kids plastic Go-lo cars worth $3 that broke in literally 5 mins. The cheap gifts didn't especially bother me, it was the double standards that annoyed me. Last xmas did it for us. We bought really nice gifts for her grandkids and neither the SIL/BIL or their adult kids bought for ours at all.

    Done-diddly-un lol
