@allykat111 for me its not so much the price of a gift but the thought behind it. I would much rather a super cheap but thoughtful gift rather than something expensive that isn't me. Something as simple as hardmade biscuits or a card would be wonderful but unfortunately a lot of people I know don't feel the same or understand. And I feel guilty giving away stuff I don't want as it was a gift iykwim. But I hate being stuck with junk!

Actually, come to think of it... It's not actually the monetary value of the gifts that really worry me... It is the thought behind it. It's like SIL hasn't thought at all what to get DD. It's all just stuff - she probably won't use.

How typical of you Vicpark to respond to everyone's posts ... This is a VENT thread after all & it's all light hearted. Not sure why you need to question their feelings or make out like people are ungrateful? It appears as though you've only joined this thread to preach wisdom from your high horse.

I feel bad b!tching but M&FIL really dissapointed this year. I know its the thought that counts but, they are retired, hardly poor (because we know their fin pos - they tell us) and have plenty of time to think. They got the kids a towell, and a cup with lollies in it. Nothing for us - but we have had that agreement for a while. Sad for the kids. Just felt like no effort or thought was put in at all

My mum was always late at giving me my Xmas present and sometimes it annoyed me, she died a few months ago.....I should have appreciated the fact that she got me anything at all as I'll never get anything from her again. Merry Christmas to all.

I don't think anyone here who posted is ungrateful...myself included. This was a lighthearted thread I thought. And no its not all about material possessions etc... And that's not my focus at all during Christmas time. ...
I'm very sorry to hear that your mum is no longer here to celebrate Christmas with you. The loss of loved ones can make Christmas a sad time for many. I hope you still enjoyed your Christmas day.

MIL has out gifted herself this year. This isn't so much crappy as downright bizarre.

A saw. A small rusty saw wrapped in brown paper - with the blade (did I mention rusty?) poking through the paper.

For my 2 year old DS.

To be fair there was a label saying that it was for use under DH's guidance. But seriously, WTF are either of them going to do with a FREAKING RUSTY SAW?

I was actually going to come on and spill the beans about a terrible Aunt who regifted this year to my DS1 (again... The marker packet had been opened and sticky taped back together). Then I thought against it. There are more important things going on in this world. A friends young bub is about to have major surgery soon for starters.

Yes I came in here and responded to several posts. Even though it's a supposed "light hearted vent" thread it's in really poor taste considering how some people are doing it tough. Yes I am on my high horse, it's not hard when the bar is set so low. The large number of whinging, entitled, jumping to conclusion, precious princess posts in this thread makes me want to vomit. I'm making out like people are ungrateful because they are!

Thanks for inviting me back into this thread to say what I really think. I feel much better now xxx
