DS (4) does not eat cereal so I make eggs/toast or pancakes but he gets his own fruit and yogurt while one of us makes his breakfast - I'm thinking next year maybe teaching him to do his own toast ?

I only let my oldest make toast...she started when she was 8 years old and she'll put it in for her siblings if required. I was nervous letting her use the toaster at 8 years age! Perhaps I was being a bit over protective on that one?

My 7 year old and even my 4 year old get their own breakfast and have done for ages. I didnt make them, its just something they started doing on their own.

Eta- 7 year old makes toast on her own. If the bread gets stuck she comes and gets me

My 6yo, nearly 7yo dd never gets her own. I do it while I make dd2 (2yo) breakfast.... its quicker and I hate the mess so its easier for me to do it for now. But when she is old enough I will get her to make dd2s too!

My 8 & 10 yr old SS's get thier own toast or cereal for breakfast. This holidays i taught them both to make scrambled eggs so now they do that too. They also make thier own simple lunches like sandwiches, toasted sandwiches, and 2 min noodles or heating up leftovers. They sometimes help cook dinner too. Even my toddler helps me cook dinner. Its such a vital life skill that i am getting in while they are interested.

Default Do your (older) kids get their own breakfast?

My 6 year old makes himself and his little brother toast most mornings. My 3 year old spreads his own peanut butter. Makes an enormous mess but he is so proud of himself. If they have eggs or something different I'll make it.
